The significance of stranding data as indicators of cetacean populations at sea: Modelling the drift of cetacean carcasses
Hélène Peltier,Willy Dabin,Pierre Daniel,O. Van Canneyt,Ghislain Dorémus,M. Huon,Vincent Ridoux +6 more
TL;DR: It appeared that most stranded common dolphins recorded along the French Atlantic coast originated from the continental shelf, mostly in the south of the Bay of Biscay.

Foraging ecology of subantarctic fur seals Arctocephalus tropicalis breeding on Amsterdam Island: seasonal changes in relation to maternal characteristics and pup growth
Gwénaël Beauplet,Laurent Dubroca,Christophe Guinet,Yves Cherel,Willy Dabin,Céline Gagne,Mark A. Hindell +6 more
TL;DR: An increase in foraging trip duration throughout the season paralleled decreasing rates in maternal mass gain and pup growth, suggesting a decrease in food availability, and no influence of age and thus no apparent advantage of female experience was detected in this study.
Bioaccumulation of persistent organic pollutants in female common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) and harbour porpoises (Phocoena phocoena) from western European seas: Geographical trends, causal factors and effects on reproduction and mortality
Graham J. Pierce,M.B. Santos,Sinéad Murphy,Sinéad Murphy,J.A. Learmonth,Alain F. Zuur,Emer Rogan,Paco Bustamante,Florence Caurant,V. Lahaye,V. Lahaye,Vincent Ridoux,Bart N. Zegers,Anchelique Mets,M.J. Addink,C. Smeenk,Thierry Jauniaux,Robin J. Law,Willy Dabin,Alfredo López,J. M. Alonso Farré,Ángel F. González,Ángel Guerra,M. Garcia-Hartmann,Robert J. Reid,Colin F. Moffat,Christina Lockyer,J.P. Boon +27 more
TL;DR: Porpoises that died from disease or parasitic infection had higher concentrations of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) than animals dying from other causes, and POP profiles in common dolphin blubber were related to individual feeding history while those in porpoises were more strongly related to condition.

The Stranding Anomaly as Population Indicator: The Case of Harbour Porpoise Phocoena phocoena in North-Western Europe
Hélène Peltier,Hans J. Baagøe,Kees Camphuysen,Richard Czeck,Willy Dabin,Pierre Daniel,Rob Deaville,Jan Haelters,Thierry Jauniaux,Thierry Jauniaux,Lasse Fast Jensen,Paul Jepson,Guido O. Keijl,Ursula Siebert,Olivier Van Canneyt,Vincent Ridoux +15 more
TL;DR: This work used a drift model to map stranding probabilities and predict stranding patterns of cetacean carcasses under H0 across the North Sea, the Channel and the Bay of Biscay, for the period 1990–2009 and constructed the spatial and temporal null hypothesis for strandings.
Assessing the Impact of Bycatch on Dolphin Populations: The Case of the Common Dolphin in the Eastern North Atlantic
Laura Mannocci,Willy Dabin,Emmanuelle Augeraud-Véron,Jean-François Dupuy,Christophe Barbraud,Christophe Barbraud,Vincent Ridoux +6 more
TL;DR: The approach provided indicators of the status and trajectory of the common dolphin population in the eastern North Atlantic and therefore proved to be a valuable tool for management, applicable to other dolphin populations.
