Transmembrane action potentials and contractions of human atrial muscle.
TL;DR: Transmembrane action potentials and contractions recorded from pieces of human atrial muscle stimulated electrically in Krebs solution exhibit a new type of behavior characterized by periodic "cycling" between two phases, which reflects intrinsic capabilities of the cell membrane not previously observed in heart.

Action potentials of guinea pig atria under conditions which alter contraction.
TL;DR: A hypothesis is introduced which accounts for changes in CS under these conditions which were associated with shortening of the AP plateau duration and treatment with ryanodine.

EDTA relaxation of glycerol-treated muscle fibers, and the effects of magnesium, calcium and manganese ions.
Shizuo Watanabe,William Sleator +1 more
TL;DR: The relaxing effects of EDTA on glycerol-treated muscle fibers were studied quantitatively in the presence of Mg++, Ca++, and Mn++ in various combinations to produce relaxation of well-washed fibers.
