We have disclosed a modular personal network (MPN) that includes multiple devices that may be worn, carried, or used in close proximity to a user. The devices communicate wirelessly. Functions of the MPN may be modified by adding or removing components. The MPN may communicate with a personal computer. General purpose devices may include a control unit, a display, a user input, and an audio output. The MPN may provide a variety of functions, including time, communication, entertainment, organization, guidance, athletic, medical, travel, outdoors, identity, security and military. The wireless protocol is preferrably based on the Bluetooth or IEEE 802.15 standards.

Disclosed herein is a communications system implementing a headset wirelessly connected to a half-duplex communications device, such as a two-way radio or a radio-simulating cellular phone. The headset may incorporate a transmit/receive switch wherein a transmit signal is wirelessly transmitted from the headset to the communications device to direct the communications device to enter into a transmit mode. Alternatively, a wireless transmit/receive switch may be implemented separately from the wireless headset, where the wireless transmit/receive switch may be positioned in the proximity of the communications device and the headset and may be engaged by a user to direct the communications device to enter a transmit mode.

The system includes a multithreading microprocessor, including a plurality of thread contexts (TCs), each comprising a first control indicator for controlling whether the TC is exempt from servicing interrupt requests to an exception domain for the plurality of TCs, and a virtual processing element (VPE), comprising the exception domain, configured to receive the interrupt requests, wherein the interrupt requests are non-specific to the plurality of TCs, wherein the VPE is configured to select a non-exempt one of the plurality of TCs to service each of the interrupt requests, the VPE further comprising a second control indicator for controlling whether the VPE is enabled to select one of the plurality of TCs to service the interrupt requests. The system also includes a multiprocessor operating system (OS), configured to initially set the second control indicator to enable the VPE to service the interrupts, and further configured to schedule execution of threads on the plurality of TCs, wherein each of the threads is configured to individually disable itself from servicing the interrupts by setting the first control indicator, rather than by clearing the second control indicator.

The systems and methods may include a portable sensor component configured to be carried by the individual during the physical activity and configured to obtain movement data for the athlete individual during the physical activity. The systems and methods may also include a portable output component configured to be carried by the individual during the physical activity and configured to provide an output to the individual during the physical activity. The systems and methods may further include a portable processing component in communication with the portable sensor component and the portable output component, where the portable processing component is configured to be carried by the individual during the physical activity. The portable processing component may be configured to identify movement of the individual during the physical activity.

Through a single, hand-held or body-mounted personal communications unit (PCU), the CCS provides the soldier with access to a digital, full-duplex wireless intercom, as well as the capability to simultaneously communicate over a point-to-point digital data link. In addition, through the use of a single universal adapter interface (UAI), the soldier can remotely access the existing analog or digital wired vehicle intercom and the attached wide area tactical radios. Moreover, using a novel protocol and system architecture, the CCS is able to reconfigure itself automatically and seamlessly into various centralized and distributed network configurations as the operational scenario changes. At the core of the CCS is a 20 MIPS, fixed-point digital signal processor, which implements the protocol, control and signal processing algorithms required to achieve robust personal and inter-vehicle communications.
