S-Decyl-glutathione nonspecifically stimulates the ATPase activity of the nucleotide-binding domains of the human multidrug resistance-associated protein, MRP1 (ABCC1)
Robbert H. Cool,Marloes K. Veenstra,Wim van Klompenburg,Rene I. R. Heyne,Michael Müller,Elisabeth G.E. de Vries,Hendrik W. van Veen,Wil N. Konings +7 more
TL;DR: S-decyl-glutathione, a conjugate specifically transported by MRP1 and MRP2, was able to stimulate the ATPase activities of the isolated NBDs more than 2-fold in a concentration-dependent manner, whereas equivalent stimulation of ATPase activity could be obtained by surfactants with similar critical micelle concentrations.

The role of the proton motive force and electron flow in solute transport in Escherichia coli
TL;DR: Transport of lactose and methyl beta-D-thiogalactopyranoside, a melibiose analogue, was studied in intact cells of Escherichia coli, showing the same characteristics and an explanation based on local proton diffusion pathways is unlikely.

[32] Energization of solute transport in membrane vesicles from anaerobically grown bacteria
TL;DR: In bacteria, the cytoplasmic membrane is the only layer of the cell envelope that forms a diffusion barrier for most solutes, and energy for active transport processes can be supplied by electron flow in the respiratory chain to oxygen as terminal electron acceptor.

Functional reconstitution of photosynthetic cyclic electron-transfer in liposomes
TL;DR: Observations show that the pH-dependent direct oxidation of cytochrome c by ubiquinol in the liposomes was indeed catalyzed by the ubiqu inol-cy tochrome c oxidoreductase and that this oxidation participates in proton pumping.
