Domain adaptation is commonly employed in crowd counting to bridge the domain gaps between different datasets. However, existing domain adaptation methods tend to focus on inter-dataset differences while overlooking the intra-differences within the same dataset, leading to additional learning ambiguities. These domain-agnostic factors,e.g., density, surveillance perspective, and scale, can cause significant in-domain variations, and the misalignment of these factors across domains can lead to a drop in performance in cross-domain crowd counting. To address this issue, we propose a Domain-agnostically Aligned Optimal Transport (DAOT) strategy that aligns domain-agnostic factors between domains. The DAOT consists of three steps. First, individual-level differences in domain-agnostic factors are measured using structural similarity (SSIM). Second, the optimal transfer (OT) strategy is employed to smooth out these differences and find the optimal domain-to-domain misalignment, with outlier individuals removed via a virtual "dustbin'' column. Third, knowledge is transferred based on the aligned domain-agnostic factors, and the model is retrained for domain adaptation to bridge the gap across domains. We conduct extensive experiments on five standard crowd-counting benchmarks and demonstrate that the proposed method has strong generalizability across diverse datasets. DAOT: Domain-Agnostically Aligned Optimal Transport for Domain-Adaptive Crowd Counting

Point cloud registration is a fundamental technique in 3-D computer vision with applications in graphics, autonomous driving, and robotics. However, registration tasks under challenging conditions, under which noise or perturbations are prevalent, can be difficult. We propose a robust point cloud registration approach that leverages graph neural partial differential equations (PDEs) and heat kernel signatures. Our method first uses graph neural PDE modules to extract high-dimensional features from point clouds by aggregating information from the 3-D point neighborhood, thereby enhancing the robustness of the feature representations. Then, we incorporate heat kernel signatures into an attention mechanism to efficiently obtain corresponding keypoints. Finally, a singular value decomposition (SVD) module with learnable weights is used to predict the transformation between two point clouds. Empirical experiments on a 3-D point cloud dataset demonstrate that our approach not only achieves state-of-the-art performance for point cloud registration but also exhibits better robustness to additive noise or 3-D shape perturbations.

PointDifformer: Robust Point Cloud Registration with Neural Diffusion and Transformer

Point cloud registration is essential for many applications. However, existing real datasets require extremely tedious and costly annotations, yet may not provide accurate camera poses. For the synthetic datasets, they are mainly object-level, so the trained models may not generalize well to real scenes. We design SIRA-PCR, a new approach to 3D point cloud registration. First, we build a synthetic scene-level 3D registration dataset, specifically designed with physically-based and random strategies to arrange diverse objects. Second, we account for variations in different sensing mechanisms and layout placements, then formulate a sim-to-real adaptation framework with an adaptive re-sample module to simulate patterns in real point clouds. To our best knowledge, this is the first work that explores sim-to-real adaptation for point cloud registration. Extensive experiments show the SOTA performance of SIRA-PCR on widely-used indoor and out-door datasets. The code and dataset will be released on https://github.com/Chen-Suyi/SIRA_Pytorc.h

SIRA-PCR: Sim-to-Real Adaptation for 3D Point Cloud Registration

For point cloud registration (PCR), a matching matrix is critical. Unfortunately, the existing approaches do not explicitly devise schemes to refine the matching matrix. Furthermore, previous studies focused on the design of feature interactions between two point clouds and lacked attention to the discriminative features required for point cloud registration. This study presents a novel PCR method called RecARONet. The method mainly includes two innovations: an adaptive relation-oriented convolution (ARO-Conv) with effectiveness and a recurrent refinement technique of the correspondence based on the adaptive neighbourhood consensus constraint, mainly for more accurate registration. Specifically, ARO-Conv reconstructs the node representation by weighting the relations in the local neighbourhood rather than generating point features from the embeddings of the neighbours. This simple but effective operation can reduce feature redundancy and alleviate structural smoothness to a certain extent. It can also assign appropriate weights to the relations and different channels of features to capture more distinct local topological information. In addition, a recurrent correspondence-walk with a semantic adornment algorithm based on the adaptive neighbourhood consensus constraint is depicted, which can adaptively capture the differences in the local structure among proxy point pairs and recurrently update correspondences. Registration evaluations were performed on several complete/partial point cloud datasets, which revealed that the constructed model achieved excellent performance. 

A new method for point cloud registration: Adaptive relation-oriented convolution and recurrent correspondence-walk

In this paper, we present a new method for the multiview registration of point cloud. Previous multiview registration methods rely on exhaustive pairwise registration to construct a densely-connected pose graph and apply Iteratively Reweighted Least Square (IRLS) on the pose graph to compute the scan poses. However, constructing a densely-connected graph is time-consuming and contains lots of outlier edges, which makes the subsequent IRLS struggle to find correct poses. To address the above problems, we first propose to use a neural network to estimate the overlap between scan pairs, which enables us to construct a sparse but reliable pose graph. Then, we design a novel history reweighting function in the IRLS scheme, which has strong robustness to outlier edges on the graph. In comparison with existing multiview registration methods, our method achieves 11% higher registration recall on the 3DMatch dataset and ~13% lower registration errors on the ScanNet dataset while reducing ~70% required pairwise registrations. Comprehensive ablation studies are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of our designs.

Robust Multiview Point Cloud Registration with Reliable Pose Graph Initialization and History Reweighting

We present RoReg, a novel point cloud registration framework that fully exploits oriented descriptors and estimated local rotations in the whole registration pipeline. Previous methods mainly focus on extracting rotation-invariant descriptors for registration but unanimously neglect the orientations of descriptors. In this paper, we show that the oriented descriptors and the estimated local rotations are very useful in the whole registration pipeline, including feature description, feature detection, feature matching, and transformation estimation. Consequently, we design a novel oriented descriptor RoReg-Desc and apply RoReg-Desc to estimate the local rotations. Such estimated local rotations enable us to develop a rotation-guided detector, a rotation coherence matcher, and a one-shot-estimation RANSAC, all of which greatly improve the registration performance. Extensive experiments demonstrate that RoReg achieves state-of-the-art performance on the widely-used 3DMatch and 3DLoMatch datasets, and also generalizes well to the outdoor ETH dataset. In particular, we also provide in-depth analysis on each component of RoReg, validating the improvements brought by oriented descriptors and the estimated local rotations. RoReg: Pairwise Point Cloud Registration With Oriented Descriptors and Local Rotations

Matching cross-modality features between images and point clouds is a fundamental problem for image-to-point cloud registration. However, due to the modality difference between images and points, it is difficult to learn robust and discriminative cross-modality features by existing metric learning methods for feature matching. Instead of applying metric learning on cross-modality data, we propose to unify the modality between images and point clouds by pretrained large-scale models first, and then establish robust correspondence within the same modality. We show that the intermediate features, called diffusion features, extracted by depth-to-image diffusion models are semantically consistent between images and point clouds, which enables the building of coarse but robust cross-modality correspondences. We further extract geometric features on depth maps produced by the monocular depth estimator. By matching such geometric features, we significantly improve the accuracy of the coarse correspondences produced by diffusion features. Extensive experiments demonstrate that without any task-specific training, direct utilization of both features produces accurate image-to-point cloud registration. On three public indoor and outdoor benchmarks, the proposed method averagely achieves a 20.6 percent improvement in Inlier Ratio, a three-fold higher Inlier Number, and a 48.6 percent improvement in Registration Recall than existing state-of-the-arts.

FreeReg: Image-to-Point Cloud Registration Leveraging Pretrained Diffusion Models and Monocular Depth Estimators

Multi-view video reconstruction plays a vital role in computer vision, enabling applications in film production, virtual reality, and motion analysis. While recent advances such as 4D Gaussian Splatting (4DGS) have demonstrated impressive capabilities in dynamic scene reconstruction, they typically rely on the assumption that input video streams are temporally synchronized. However, in real-world scenarios, this assumption often fails due to factors like camera trigger delays or independent recording setups, leading to temporal misalignment across views and reduced reconstruction quality. To address this challenge, a novel temporal alignment strategy is proposed for high-quality 4DGS reconstruction from unsynchronized multi-view videos. Our method features a coarse-to-fine alignment module that estimates and compensates for each camera's time shift. The method first determines a coarse, frame-level offset and then refines it to achieve sub-frame accuracy. This strategy can be integrated as a readily integrable module into existing 4DGS frameworks, enhancing their robustness when handling asynchronous data. Experiments show that our approach effectively processes temporally misaligned videos and significantly enhances baseline methods.
