Two-Stage Block-Based Whitened Principal Component Analysis with Application to Single Sample Face Recognition
TL;DR: This two-stage block-based whitened PCA (TS-BWPCA) is actually a coarse-to-fine scheme that can maximize both global and local scatter, and thus overcomes the aforementioned shortcomings of PCA.
Stock index trend analysis based on signal decomposition
Abstract: SUMMARY A new stock index trend analysis approach is proposed in this paper, which is based on a newly developed signal decomposition approach - adaptive Fourier decomposition (AFD). AFD can e ff ectively extract the signal’s primary trend, which specifically suits the Dow Theory based technique analysis. The proposed approach integrates two di ff erent kinds of forecasting approaches, including the Dow theory the RBF neural network. E ff ectiveness of the proposed approach is assessed through comparison with the direct RBF neural network approach. The result is proved to be promising.

Spatially Adaptive Logarithmic Total Variation Model for Varying Light Face Recognition
TL;DR: An extension to the classical logarithmic total variation (LTV) model for face recognition under variant illumination conditions is proposed to assign the regularization parameters which balance the large-scale and small-scale components in a spatially adaptive scheme.
