Social Network Analysis: List of Notation

Supply chain management has emerged as a popular and useful concept in the construction industry and research community since the mid 1990s. Research in construction supply chain management draws from a broad range of disciplines, notably: (1) industrial organization economics to better understand market structure and forces and their effect on firm and supply chain behavior and (2) Analytic modeling of supply chains to improve supply chain performance along metrics such as speed, cost, reliability, quality, etc. Both industrial organization and analytic modeling provide useful but ultimately incomplete perspectives and prescriptions for construction supply chain management. As such, this paper proposes development of an interdisciplinary research agenda that draws from both fields. Towards that agenda, a review of research is presented to introduce the main ideas, relevant literature, and theory and methods in each of the two areas. From these independent reviews, applications that could benefit from a combined perspective are identified and used as a basis for development of an interdisciplinary research agenda.

The wanton dissemination of network pseudohealth information has brought great harm to people’s health, life, and property. It is important to detect and identify network pseudohealth information. Based on this, this paper defines the concepts of pseudohealth information, data block, and data block integration, designs an architecture that combines the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) algorithm and data block update integration, and proposes the combination algorithm model. In addition, crawler technology is used to crawl the pseudohealth information transmitted on the Sina Weibo platform during the “epidemic situation” from February to March 2020 for the simulation test on the experimental case dataset. The research results show that (1) the LDA model can deeply mine the semantic information of network pseudohealth information, obtain the features of document-topic distribution, and classify and train topic features as input variables; (2) the dataset partitioning method can effectively block data according to the text attributes and class labels of network pseudohealth information and can accurately classify and integrate the block data through the data block reintegration method; and (3) considering that the combination model has certain limitations on the detection of network pseudohealth information, the support vector machine (SVM) model can extract the granularity content of data blocks in pseudohealth information in real time, thus greatly improving the recognition performance of the combination model.

Network Pseudohealth Information Recognition Model: An Integrated Architecture of Latent Dirichlet Allocation and Data Block Update

In the project-based construction industry, organizations build collaborative relationships through specific projects. The owners and contractors who are the key project stakeholders have gradually formed a complex project-based industry-level collaborative network in many different projects, closely related to knowledge exchange and industry development. Based on the data set of the National Quality Engineering Award (NQEA) projects in China from 2013 to 2021, we empirically analyze the characteristics and evolution of project-based collaborative networks between owners and contractors in the construction industry by using social network analysis (SNA) and network motif analysis (NMA) method. The results show that (1) the owner–contractor collaborative network exhibits small-world network characteristics. The island effect caused by small groups in the network makes the overall connectivity of the network low. During the study period, the collaborative network became more compact. (2) State-owned construction companies, such as China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Corporation Limited, China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau Corporation Limited, and China Construction Second Engineering Bureau Corporation Limited, with high degree centrality and betweenness centrality, are the core companies in the collaborative network. In China, state-owned construction enterprises are favored by owners and have established collaborative relationships with many owners and contractors. (3) There are two local collaborative patterns in the collaborative network: motif and anti-motif. Motifs include some triangle-based tight collaborative patterns, while anti-motifs involve some loose binary collaborative patterns. The results help understand the structure and evolution of the industry-level collaborative relationship network between owners and contractors and can provide references for owners and contractors to develop relationship cultivation strategies more effectively.

Exploring the Project-Based Collaborative Networks between Owners and Contractors in the Construction Industry: Empirical Study in China

Megaprojects are implemented by different organisations, such as owners, consultants, and contractors. Gradually, these organisations and their connections can form business networks that influence both the market position of individual organisations and project performance. Previous research on large-scale projects mainly focused on static and homogeneous networks that were constructed by one individual project and/or carried out over one-off collaboration. However, this neglected the consideration of project network diversity, as well as repetitive, dynamic, cross-project coopetition relationship (i.e., collaboration and competition) and long-term business networks formed by key actors. Here, we chose Chinese skyscrapers over 300 meters that were built from 1996 to 2015 as typical megaproject cases and analysed the formation and evolution of megaproject business networks from the perspective of interorganisational coopetition. We identified the key actors involved and empirically studied their dynamic network positions over time. The main contributions of this study are threefold. First, we found that past collaboration experience has direct and dynamic impacts on the formation of megaproject business networks. Second, we identified key actors in the interorganisational business network and unveiled their dynamic positions with clear patterns. Third, we highlighted the temporal-spatial effect on the formation and development of business networks, alongside developments in the megaproject market. The findings of this study also provide practical applications for owners to choose collaboration partners and to build high-performance teams and for suppliers to enter and sustain the business in the megaprojects networks.
