Context Understanding the motivators and obstacles behind pursuing advanced dental education is essential in planning pedagogy, mentorship programs, and curricula that support dental students to achieve their future career goals. Purpose The objective of this study was to investigate factors influencing dental student's choice to pursue a postgraduate specialization at University of New England College of Dental Medicine with a focus on student personality. Factors examined include demographics, religious affiliations, prior education, dental experiences, expected debt, past career choices, beliefs about the process of specialization, and personality types. Method A total of 232 dental students (91.6% response rate) completed a self-administered questionnaire. About 21.6% of dental students intended to pursue a dental specialty while 38.8% wanted to pursue a nondental Masters' program. Approximately one-third of dental students were interested in practicing as general dentists or pursuing additional training in general dentistry. Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry were the top choices for dental specialization. Results Being younger, having a dentist family member, nonwhite ethnicity, and having Extraverted and Sensing personality were found to be significant predictors of dental students' intention to pursue advanced dental education. Having a unique talent or skills, past exposure to dental treatments, family/peer expectations, geographic location of the residency program and its proximity to the family were the most identified factors while considering residency program. Conclusion Results in this study are consistent with previous literature and bring attention to the importance of understanding students' personality in teaching methodologies, mentorship and determining their future goals. The findings allow dental institutions to better prepare their predoctoral candidate for residency.

Factors affecting pre-doctoral dental students' selection of advanced dental education: A cross-sectional study.

Poor academic performance is identified to be a serious concern that needs to be addressed. To address what caused it, this inquiry was directed by determining the following: 1) respondents' birth order, mental ability, personality, study habits, and reasons of low academic performance; 2) significant difference in students' personality types when grouped according to birth order and mental ability, and 3) significant difference in respondents' study habits when grouped according to mental ability. There were 124 purposively chosen low-performing grade 7 students who are considered respondents of this study. This study made use of descriptive research specifically, the quantitative research method. Findings of the study stated that respondents are mostly middle and firstborn, have the below-average mental ability, extroverted, have low study habits, and mostly prefer studying alone. The topmost reason for low academic performance was “I did not study”. The respondents’ personalities also did not significantly differ regardless of birth order and mental ability. And, they did not significantly differ in study habits regardless of mental ability level. Being mostly extroverts and regardless of mental ability level, they did not study at all which highly explains poor academic performance.

Factors that Contribute to Failure Causes of Academically Low Performing Students

In line with the objective of this study is to provide a descriptive account of the student's achievement. Students have better writing achievement. In this study, the researcher uses comparative research. The population of this research will be the students in SMP Negeri 1 Barru in the 2022/2023 academic year and the total population is 129 students. The research participants in this study were the students of SMP Negeri 1 Barru. A random class method is employed to select the 31 participants. This is evidenced by the t count t-test (-,0426) which is lower than the ttable (1,69913) at a significance level of 0.05. Thus, the hypothesis (H1) is accepted and null (H0) is rejected. In a comparative study between the personality of extrovert and introvert students, there is a significant difference between the personality of extrovert and introvert students in writing achievement. However, it can be seen from the average personality value of extrovert students (83.15) is higher than the personality of introvert students (78.83) students of SMP Negeri 1 Barru for the 2022/2023 academic year.

A Comparative Study between Extrovert and Introvert Students’ on Writing Achievement

Objective: To determine the frequency and compare personality types among pre-medical and first-year medical students and their relation to the education system and socioeconomic status. Study Design: Comparative cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad and three Secondary-Level Institutes of Abbottabad, Pakistan, from Jan to Mar 2020. Methodology: Of 384 students, 192 were each included in pre-medical and first-year medical groups. After obtaining written informed consent, data was collected on a questionnaire based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Socioeconomic status was assessed using a modified Kuppuswamy scale.Results: Common personality types among pre-medical students were extrovert-intuitive-feeling-perceiving 33(17.2%), extrovert-intuitive-feeling-judging 22(11.5%), and introvert-intuitive-feeling-judging 19(9.89%), while among medical students, common types were extrovert-intuitive-feeling-perceiving 34(17.7%), extrovert-intuitive-feeling-judging 25(13%), introvert-intuitive-feeling-perceiving 21(10.9%) and extrovert-sensing-feeling-judging 21(10.9%). Pre-medical and medicalstudents have attitude preferences towards extroverts, intuitive, feeling, and perceiving. A greater inclination for feeling was found among medical students than pre-medical and for perceiving among pre-medical students than medical. For paired personality preferences, both groups have expressed a predilection for intuitive feeling and feeling perceiving. Comparison between groups was statistically insignificant (p=0.788). There was a statistically insignificant difference between personality types with the education system in the pre-medical (p=0.058) and medical group (p=0.916) and with socioeconomic status in the pre-medical (p=0.146) and medical group (p=0.931).Conclusion: Pre-medical and medical students shared similar personalities. Identifying personalities at the pre-medical level is important so medical students find synchronisation between their personalities and studies. Socioeconomic status should also be considered. 

Frequency and Comparison of Personality Types of Pre-Medical and First-Year Medical Students in Choosing Medicine as a Career Choice and its Association with the Education System and Socioeconomic Status

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(MBTI) personality type and academic achievement of Korean medical students. A total of 97 (57 men, 40 women; ages 24 to 36) fourth-year Korean medical students participated in this study. The MBTI questionnaire was administered to all the students for identification of their personality type and academic performance. The results are as follows. First, the proportions of Personality type of Korean medical students were Extroversion (E) 33.0% - Introversion (I) 67.0%, Sensing (S) 70.1%- Intuition (N) 29.9%, Thinking (T) 58.8%- Feeling (F) 41.2%, and Judging (J) 54.6% - Perceiving (P) 45.3%. Second, the most common personality type was ISTJ (22.7%), followed by ISTP (13.4%), ISFJ (12.3%). Third, according to the analysis of this study, academic achievement was significantly related with their personality type in the preference : Sensing (S) - Intuition (N) and Judging (J)-Perceiving (P). In analysis of Sensing (S) - Intuition (N) and Judging (J)-Perceiving (P) index, Sensing (S) and Judging (J) type students had higher academic achievement than Intuition (N) and Perceiving (P) type students. This is the study to identify the characteristics of MBTI in Korean Medical students. The findings indicate that academic achievement was significantly related to their personality type in the preference. Using the results of MBTI in Korean medical students, is helpful in selection of appropriate teaching and learning strategies to provide better education.
