Recently, high-entropy alloys have drawn lots of attention due to their outstanding properties In this paper, a promising new surface modification technique was acted on CoCrFeNiMo02 high-entropy alloy to improve its mechanical and corrosion properties CoCrFeNiMo02 high-entropy alloys were synthesized via vacuum arc melting then, their surfaces were processed by high-current pulsed electron beam (HCPEB) Microstructure, microhardness, wear and corrosion resistance were studied systematically by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) Before and after HCPEB irradiation, CoCrFeNiMo02 high-entropy alloy had a face-centered cubic (FCC) structure, and the surface of the irradiated samples revealed preferential orientation on the (111) and (200) planes In addition, a compact and homogenization surface layer formed after irradiation Also, high-amplitude stress caused high-density dislocations and stacking faults on the surface After HCPEB irradiation, the properties of the samples were significantly improved, the maximum microhardness (3929 HV) and lowest wear rate (092 × 10−4 mm3·N−1·m−1) was obtained after 35-pulsed irradiation Furthermore, corrosion resistance was obviously enhanced after 25-pulsed irradiation

Microstructure and properties of CoCrFeNiMo0.2 high-entropy alloy enhanced by high-current pulsed electron beam

The present work aimed to decrease the surface roughness of maraging steel (MS) by selective laser melting (SLM) using large pulsed electron-beam (LPEB) irradiation as a post-treatment. The MS samples were fabricated using different combinations of laser power, scanning speed, hatch distance, and build angle. The morphological features, surface roughness, phase content, and corrosion resistance of the MS samples in their as-fabricated (ASF) state were compared after LPEB irradiation. The ASF SLM-MS samples exhibit the presence of partially melted particles that spread over the entire surface and many cracks in both the longitudinal and transverse directions. A higher arithmetical mean height (Sa: 2−17 μm), large variations in Sa measured at various locations, and a strong dependence of Sa on build angle were also observed. Post-treatment by LPEB irradiation removed the partially melted particles, while reflow of the molten mass filled the cracks and voids and facilitated the formation of a uniform surface with a bright metallic finish. This has resulted in a significant decrease in Sa (0.50–4.50 μm) and a smaller variation in Sa measured at different locations. Body-centered cubic α-martensite was the predominant phase for the ASF SLM-MS samples, along with a small fraction face-centered cubic γ-austenite phase. After LPEB irradiation, the martensite was reverted to the austenite phase. The corrosion resistance of the LPEB-irradiated samples was moderately better than that of the ASF SLM-MS samples. The uniform surface morphology, removal of partially melted particles, absence of pores and cracks, decrease in Sa, and moderate improvement in corrosion resistance suggests that LPEB irradiation can be used as a post-treatment for SLM-MS samples.

Enhancement of the surface properties of selective laser melted maraging steel by large pulsed electron-beam irradiation

In this study, NiCoCrAlYSiHf coatings deposited via arc ion plating technique were modified by high-current pulsed electron beam (HCPEB) irradiation with different pulses. The coarse surface of the original coating was completely modified, and the modification effects of HCPEB irradiation, including surface finishing, composition optimization, and microstructural adjustment were obtained. The transient oxidation behavior of original and irradiated coatings was comparatively investigated under 1100 °C for 10 h. Experiment and characterization results showed that the remelting effects induced by HCPEB irradiation could greatly influence the growth behavior of the thermally grown oxides (TGO), presenting as the rapid formation of a complete and dense α-Al2O3 layer in the transient oxidation stage, which guaranteed the protective effect of the AIP-MCrAlYX type coatings in subsequent oxidation stages.

Microstructure and transient oxidation behavior of NiCoCrAlYSiHf coating modified via high-current pulsed electron beam

A novel high‐performance ultraviolet–visible–near‐infrared (300–820 nm) heterojunction photodiode based on radiation‐resistant semiconductor materials is proposed. A titanium nitride (TiN) “window” layer is deposited via magnetron sputtering onto a cadmium zinc telluride (CdZnTe) solid solution single crystal. The TiN/CdZnTe heterojunction photodiodes concurrently reveal an outstanding detectivity, response time, and linear dynamic range outperforming similar heterojunction photodiodes and photodetectors, based on photoactive inorganic compound semiconductor materials. Moreover, the added feature of the proposed heterojunction photodiodes is their excellent radiation resistance, experimentally demonstrated under short impulse proton irradiation (170 keV) with an accumulated fluence of 2 × 1012 proton cm−2. This unusual synergy of high performance and advanced radiation resistance of the TiN/CdZnTe photodiodes provides a unique platform for operation in space or radioactively contaminated environments.

In this paper, high current pulsed electron beam (HCPEB) was used for the irradiation of TiN coating The impact of the modification conditions, including the energy density of electron beam and pulse number, on the morphology, phase composition, surface roughness and mechanical behavior of the TiN coatings were investigated with scanning electron microscope, atomic force microscope, X-ray diffraction, and conventional mechanical probes The results showed that the HCPEB irradiation melted the TiN coatings and strongly increased the surface roughness due to the irradiation-induced surface damage; the XRD diffraction peak intensity of the irradiated TiN coating was changed Moreover, for the HCPEB irradiation of energy density 5 J/cm2 and 20 pulses, the interfacial adhesion of the treated TiN coating was increased obviously
