As user modelling moves away from a tightly integrated adjunct of adaptive systems and into user modelling service provision, it is important to consider what facets or characteristics of a user might need to be contained within a user model in order to support cognitive functions. Here we examine previous mechanisms for creating a metacognitive and affective user model. We then take first steps to describe the necessary characteristics of a user model we envisage being utilised by an affective metacognitive modelling service and make some suggestion for the source, form and content of such characteristics.

Core aspects of affective metacognitive user models

As software development is considered a form of knowledge based social activity, investigating social interactions and behaviors of individuals and teams constitutes a starting point for improving organizational performance and productivity. Therefore, a software development organization is regarded as a form of social network, which may be more efficiently structured based upon participants’ skills, roles and capacities to ex- change information. This paper aims to propose a research framework for modeling development activities in terms of social interrelationships. It investigates ways for improving the productivity of the software development process to several social issues (e.g. team formations, interpersonal conflicts, social loafing) that affect the group setting during the software development process. An industrial survey will be conducted to validate the proposed framework. This survey will be applied to three medium size software organizations; (i) to measure social aspects of productivity, (ii) to assess the effectiveness of our approach, (iii) and to improve the welfare of the software development organization. Semi-structured interviews with practitioners, and expert reviews with the managers will be used to evaluate the results. Ultimately, based on the principles of our game theoretical approach and collected data, we propose a research framework, which will benefit future research by drawing a road map that establishes a body of knowledge, specifically on software development teams and organizations.

Psychological Type and the MBTI ® Past, Present and Future?

Pharmaceutical programming has a variety of areas which requires expert knowledge. As you progress in your career it becomes more difficult as a leader to be the subject matter expert (SME) in all these areas, but do you need to be the SME to be a successful leader? This paper describes the skills desired to lead a team when you are not the technical expert. Applicable to all levels ranging from leading studies to global initiatives. One case study presented in this paper describes the authors’ own experiences, taking on the leadership role of a programming team tasked to harmonise PKS tools and processes. The author was not the PKS SME, but was chosen based on leadership skills to lead the team of PKS experts and deliver. A good leader has the ability to effectively communicate a vision to the team which empowers them to take a bold step forward.
