An apparatus and method for producing composite data by a server computer involves deforming a template creating a mapping relationship between co-registered data and subject data, filtering the co-registered data, and mapping this filtered co-registered data according to the mapping data. A client computer requests the composite data from the server computer and transmits the subject data to the server computer. The client presents the received composite data to an operator and monitors the operators use of the composite data.

ITiB 2016 is the 5th Conference on Information Technologies in Biomedicine organized by the Department of Informatics & Medical Equipment of Silesian University of Technology every other year. We studied image subtraction of temporally sequential chest images by rib image elimination. The image subtraction presents clinically useful information related to interval changes in chest images. Clinical chest images are not usually reproducible in terms of patient positioning, X-ray projection, inspiration, cardiac pulsation, etc. A proper image registration is needed prior to the subtraction. An image registration method by nonlinear warping was suggested [A. Kano et al., 1994]. In the method, template regions of interest and the corresponding search area regions of interest are selected in the lung areas on the two images. The method provides an improper image registration for some pairs of temporally sequential images. One of the reasons for the improper image registration is the difference between the shifts of lung and rib by inspiration. Some pairs of temporally sequential chest images show large difference of lung position in the pairs in spite of small difference of rib position in the pairs. In this case, the method does not provide a proper image registration. To get the proper image registration of the temporally sequential images with different position changes for the rib and lung, we eliminated rib images from the chest images assuming that the contribution of rib to the chest image is uniform. The nonlinear warping was then applied to the rib eliminating images leading to the properly registered images and enhanced interval changes.

We present a new volume visualization scheme, context based volume visualization to assist the surgeon in surgical planning. This visualization scheme differs from ordinary surface based rendering and volume rendering by providing a framework to combine surface based rendering and volume rendering. We can achieve the powerful manipulating capability of surface based rendering and as good a rendering effect as volume rendering at the same time. Using a special data structured-segment tree to manage the visualization scene, which includes all the volume objects and graphics objects (the surgical tools) needed to be visualized, this visualization scheme provides a common context based interface for both graphics objects and volume objects, through which, we can control graphics and volume objects easily in the same way. The context based visualization scheme can greatly increase the performance of volume visualization by generating the scene much faster through selectively revisualizing the affected objects. Based on these ideas, we implement an interactive surgical planning system, Virtual Doctor based on OpenGL 1.1 on WinNT platform and VolumePro vg500 card. This system is a good 3D volume visualization tool and augmented reality system for interactive surgical planning and further research in this area.
