The structure of the terminal sensilla on the maxillary palps of Locusta migratoria (L.), and changes associated with moulting.
TL;DR: The possible mechanism by which the tip of the peg opens and closes is considered, the general structure of the organule is discussed in relation to functioning, and the development of new pegs at a moult is described.

The Ability of Locusta Migratoria L. to Perceive Plant Surface Waxes
E. A. Bernays,W. M. Blaney,R. F. Chapman,Anthea G. Cook +3 more
- 01 Jan 1976
TL;DR: In this article, extracts of the lipid-soluble material from the surface of leaves of Poa annua were made, taking care to avoid contamination with internal constituents, and these extracts, when dried onto strips of filter paper, induced nymphs of Locusta migratoria L. to bite.

The ultrastructure of an olfactory sensillum on the maxillary palps of locusta migratoria (L.).
TL;DR: The olfactory sensilla on the maxillary palp tip of Locusta migratoria (L.) resemble the surrounding contact chemoreceptors in general morphology and the perforated peg has a thicker wall than is commonly found in o aroma sensilla.

The fine structure of the terminal sensilla on the maxillary palps of Schistocerca gregaria (Forskål) (Orthoptera, Acrididae).
W. M. Blaney,R. F. Chapman +1 more
TL;DR: The fine structure of the terminal sensilla on the maxillary palps of Schistocerca gregaria has been investigated and it is suggested that the fluid bathing the distal parts of the dendrites and exuding from the tip of the peg has a number of specialised functions.
