This paper summarizes the current state of the art and recent trends in software engineering economics. It provides an overview of economic analysis techniques and their applicability to software engineering and management. It surveys the field of software cost estimation, including the major estimation techniques available, the state of the art in algorithmic cost models, and the outstanding research issues in software cost estimation.

Ontologies and conceptual modelling are very close areas in software engineering. This paper is focused on initial steps towards the integration of conceptual models by the foundation of Ontology for Conceptual Models Integration to capture the knowledge about various conceptual modelling languages, including process, event, and objectrole modelling. It is based on previous work in this area and has an ambitious goal to allow semantic integration of conceptual models made in different languages to cover more aspects and details of the problem domain. The presented contribution consists of the related work research, the initial ontology designed to be easily extensible, and related ideas for future work based on this foundation. We foresee this ontology to help also with using various conceptual models to create complete, consistent, and requisite software implementation in an automated way.

Integration of technical systems with business processes, and coherent strategies for the development of both, have long been recognised as critical to the competitiveness of companies. However, as separate systems become integrated, dependencies are established that complicate future reengineering exercises. The effectiveness gained is largely as a result of a unified and simple method for presenting all aspects of the relevant model. This paper outlines BORM, its tools, methods and its differences from other similar development methodologies.

The BORM methodology: a third-generation fully object-oriented methodology

Usability and user experience (UX) are emerging concerns around not only application development but everything designed to be used by people. Evaluation of the UX is, by nature, intensely subjective and time-consuming. The article focuses mainly on Eye Tracking, Usability, and User Experience from a general point of view, with an emphasis on automatic data processing. In recent years, new technological approaches have been emerging to quantify usability testing data and improve process automation. Eye tracking technology is a great way to analyze users’ interaction with the product, allowing researchers to discover usability issues and even leverage the power of machine learning to recognize various kinds of emotions linked to users’ interactions. Existing research concerned with these three main topics has been methodically explored. For this review, we extensively searched 1988 theme-related articles. One hundred and forty-four articles were selected based on meticulous screening, from which 90 were included in this systematic review. The outcomes reveal a significant shift toward a more technologically advanced evaluation of user experience and usability in various areas. The review proposes several opportunities for future research and missing areas connecting user experience, eye tracking, and machine learning into more products focused on problem pattern identification.

BORM (Business Object Relationship Modeling) is an object-oriented system development methodology, which has proven to be very effective in the development of business systems. The effectiveness gained is largely due to a unified and simple method for presenting all aspects of the relevant model. The BORM methodology makes extensive use of business process modeling. It has now evolved into a robust system development methodology that has been used successfully to develop a wide range of systems of diverse sizes—in particular: • to identify business processes in Prague city hospitals as a prerequisite for further cost analysis; • to model necessary properties of the general agricultural commodities wholesale sector in the Czech Republic; • for business process reengineering in the electricity supply industry; • for telecommunication network management in the Czech Republic. Such systems range through all sizes of software development as can be seen in Table 1. BORM has proven to be effective and beneficial in the process of describing and subsequently understanding how real business systems evolve. Such knowledge is the key for the success of any business and is especially crucial for those employees who are responsible for business development.
