Disclosed is a fluidized bed system which includes a fluidized bed reactor, a solids separator and a return line and serves to carry out exothermic processes in a circulating fluidized bed for large thermal capacities. Secondary gas is introduced into the reactor on a level which is at least 1 meter above the bottom of the reactor. The fluidized bed system is provided with one or more displacing bodies, which cover 40 to 75% of the bottom surface area of the fluidized bed reactor and have a maximum height that is equal to one-half of the height of the reactor to ensure a satisfactory transverse mixing of the oxygen-containing secondary gas and fuel in reactors having large dimensions.

Fluidized bed system

A fluid bed dryer comprises a pre-dryer of the back mixed type and a post-dryer of the plug flow-type. In the pre-dryer the main part of heat is transferred to the product being dried by means of heating panels arranged above the bed plate. A control bed is interposed between the pre-dryer and the post-dryer and includes one or more temperature sensors for sensing the temperature of the product in the control bed. Heat supply to the heating panels is controlled in response to the temperature sensed by the sensor or sensors in order to maintain the product temperature in the pre-dryer at the dew point and so as to ensure that the drying process proceeds within the region of constant drying rate, and that the product contains little or substantially no unbound moisture despite possible changes in product fed to the pre-dryer.

Method and apparatus for drying a pulverulent or particulate product

The bed to be fluidized is initially supported upon a grid provided with a plurality of similar channels the channels shown being V-shaped vertical section, so that the cross-sectional area of the fluidized bed therein continuously increases from the bottom of the channel to the top. A fluidizing medium under pressure is introduced into the chamber containing the grid and the fluidized bed, the fluidizing medium being divided and caused to flow upwardly through the fluidized bed through a plurality of holes through the bottom and the side walls of the channels of the grid, such holes being disposed at varying heights and in such a way that the flowing fluid is uniformly distributed along the height of the fluidized bed. A plurality of pipes containing a heat exchanging fluid are disposed in the channels of the grid. The invention may be employed in a number of chemical as well as physical processes such as the combustion of fuels, the roasting of zinc concentrates, the roasting of pyrites, etc.

A method for adjusting and controlling the temperature in chemical reaction, that is, of cooling or heating fluidized beds wherein the fluidized bed is demixed into two or more sectional fluidized beds having different rates of longitudinal particle mixing, by dividing a flow of fluidizing gas and/or liquid into two or more flows to be supplied to different levels of the fluidized bed, the rate of cooling or heating being modified by changing the throughflow of the fluidizing gas and/or liquid within said individual flows. One or more of the sectional fluidized beds are associated with heat exchangers.
