Dynamics of pore formation during laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing.
Aiden A. Martin,Nicholas P. Calta,Saad A. Khairallah,Jenny Wang,Phillip J. DePond,Anthony Y. Fong,Vivek Thampy,Gabe Guss,Andrew M. Kiss,Kevin H. Stone,Christopher J. Tassone,Johanna Nelson Weker,Michael F. Toney,Tony van Buuren,Manyalibo J. Matthews +14 more
TL;DR: In situ X-ray imaging and finite element simulations are used to show how detrimental pores form under printing conditions and develop a strategy to suppress them and provide insight into the physics of laser-metal interaction.
From (π,0) magnetic order to superconductivity with (π,π) magnetic resonance in Fe 1.02 Te 1− x Se x
Tijiang Liu,Jin Hu,B. Qian,David Fobes,Zhiqiang Q. Mao,Wei Bao,Manfred Reehuis,Simon A. J. Kimber,Karel Prokes,S. Matas,Dimitri N. Argyriou,Arno Hiess,Aurelian Rotaru,Huy Pham,Leonard Spinu,Yiming Qiu,Yiming Qiu,Vivek Thampy,Andrei T. Savici,Andrei T. Savici,J.A. Rodriguez,J.A. Rodriguez,J.A. Rodriguez,Collin Broholm,Collin Broholm +24 more
TL;DR: The simplest iron-based superconductor is the chalcogenide Fe1+yTe1−xSex as mentioned in this paper, which has been shown to have a different magnetic origin of superconductivity owing to differences in its electronic states from the iron pnictides.
From (pi, 0) magnetic order to superconductivity with (pi, pi) magnetic resonance in Fe1.02(Te1-xSex)
Tijiang Liu,Jin Hu,B. Qian,David Fobes,Zhiqiang Mao,Wei Bao,M. Reehuis,Simon A. J. Kimber,Karel Prokes,S. Matas,Dimitri N. Argyriou,A. Hiess,Aurelian Rotaru,H. M. Pham,Leonard Spinu,Yiming Qiu,Vivek Thampy,Andrei T. Savici,J.A. Rodriguez,Collin Broholm +19 more
TL;DR: The results suggest a common magnetic origin for superconductivity in iron chalcogenide and pnictide superconductors and the magnetic soft mode evolving from the (pi,0)-type magnetic long-range order is associated with weak charge carrier localization.

An instrument for in situ time-resolved X-ray imaging and diffraction of laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing processes
Nicholas P. Calta,Jenny Wang,Andrew M. Kiss,Aiden A. Martin,Philip J. Depond,Gabriel M. Guss,Vivek Thampy,Anthony Y. Fong,Johanna Nelson Weker,Kevin H. Stone,Christopher J. Tassone,Matthew J. Kramer,Michael F. Toney,Anthony van Buuren,Manyalibo J. Matthews +14 more
TL;DR: A laboratory-scale LPBF test bed designed to accommodate diffraction and imaging experiments at a synchrotron X-ray source during LPBF operation is described and experimental results using Ti-6Al-4V, a widely used aerospace alloy, as a model system are presented.

Understanding crystallization pathways leading to manganese oxide polymorph formation
Bor-Rong Chen,Wenhao Sun,Wenhao Sun,Daniil A. Kitchaev,John S. Mangum,Vivek Thampy,Lauren M. Garten,David S. Ginley,Brian P. Gorman,Kevin H. Stone,Gerbrand Ceder,Gerbrand Ceder,Michael F. Toney,Laura T. Schelhas +13 more
TL;DR: An ab initio framework to predict which polymorphs appear during MnO2 precipitation is presented, which is validated by in situ X-ray scattering of reaction progression and qualitatively captures which metastable polymorphs appearance, the order of their appearance, and their relative lifetimes.
