Hepatitis C and HIV infection: biological, clinical, and therapeutic implications
Vincent Soriano,Javier García-Samaniego,Rafael Rodríguez-Rosado,Juan R. González,José Pedreira +4 more
TL;DR: Treatment with alpha-interferon provides a similar rate of response in non-severely immunosuppressed HIV-positive subjects as in HIV-negatives, and preliminary results from trials using the combination of interferon plus ribavirin look very promising for both rates of sustained response and safety.

Overview of the pharmacogenetics of HIV therapy.
TL;DR: The most relevant metabolizer enzymes and protein transporters, along with the genetic polymorphisms, which seem to influence the pharmacokinetics of antiretroviral drugs, ultimately determining its efficacy and toxicity are reviewed.

Influence of Liver Fibrosis Stage on Plasma Levels of Antiretroviral Drugs in HIV-Infected Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C
Pablo Barreiro,Sonia Rodriguez-Novoa,Pablo Labarga,Andrés Ruiz,Inmaculada Jiménez-Nácher,Luz Martín-Carbonero,Juan González-Lahoz,Vincent Soriano +7 more
TL;DR: Assessment of liver fibrosis by noninvasive tools may identify HCV/HIV-coinfected patients who might benefit from therapeutic drug monitoring to avoid drug overexposure.

Drug resistance in patients experiencing early virological failure under a triple combination including indinavir.
Oscar Gallego,Carmen de Mendoza,María J Pérez-Elías,Josep M. Guardiola,José Pedreira,David Dalmau,Juan R. González,Ana Moreno,Jose R. Arribas,Amalia Rubio,Isabel García-Arata,Manuel Leal,Pere Domingo,Vincent Soriano +13 more
TL;DR: Resistance to nucleoside analogues was more frequent than resistance to indinavir; treatment intensification in those patients without resistance, or a selective substitution of nucleosides in those with resistance limited to these compounds, might be justified.

Long-term non-progressors display a greater number of Th17 cells than HIV-infected typical progressors
TL;DR: The increased number of Th17 cells in LT NP could lead to a more preserved immune response against bacterial infections, and lower microbial translocation could explain the reduced immune activation and slower disease progression seen in LTNP.
