Distinct Light-Mediated Pathways Regulate the Biosynthesis and Exchange of Isoprenoid Precursors during Arabidopsis Seedling Development
Manuel Rodríguez-Concepción,Oriol Forés,Jaime F. Martínez-García,Victor Gonzalez,Michael A. Phillips,Albert Ferrer,Albert Boronat +6 more
TL;DR: Analysis of other light-hyposensitive mutants showed that distinct light perception and signal transduction pathways regulate these two differential mechanisms for resistance, providing evidence for a coordinated regulation of the activity of the MVA pathway and the crosstalk between cell compartments for isoprenoid biosynthesis during the first stages of seedling development.
Subcellular Localization of Arabidopsis 3-Hydroxy-3-Methylglutaryl-Coenzyme A Reductase
Pablo Leivar,Victor Gonzalez,Susanna Castel,Richard N. Trelease,Carmen López-Iglesias,Montserrat Arró,Albert Boronat,Narciso Campos,Albert Ferrer,Xavier Fernàndez-Busquets +9 more
TL;DR: Ex vivo Arabidopsis HMGR is localized at steady state within ER as expected, but surprisingly also predominantly within spherical, vesicular structures that range from 0.2- to 0.6-μm diameter, located in the cytoplasm and within the central vacuole in differentiated cotyledon cells, which provides new evidence for multiorganelle compartmentalization of the isoprenoid biosynthetic pathways in plants.

Cloning and characterization of the Arabidopsis thaliana SQS1 gene encoding squalene synthase--involvement of the C-terminal region of the enzyme in the channeling of squalene through the sterol pathway.
Rachida Kribii,Montserrat Arró,Ana del Arco,Victor Gonzalez,Lluís Balcells,Didier Delourme,Albert Ferrer,Francis Karst,Albert Boronat +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a full-length Arabidopsis thaliana SQS cDNA has been isolated by combining library screening and PCR-based approaches, showing a high level of sequence conservation (79% identity and 88% similarity).

The metabolic imbalance underlying lesion formation in Arabidopsis thaliana overexpressing farnesyl diphosphate synthase (isoform 1S) leads to oxidative stress and is triggered by the developmental decline of endogenous HMGR activity.
David Manzano,Xavier Fernàndez-Busquets,Hubert Schaller,Victor Gonzalez,Albert Boronat,Montserrat Arró,Albert Ferrer +6 more
TL;DR: The observations demonstrate that both phenotypes of necrosis and premature senescence are due to an insufficient supply of mevalonic acid and support the notion that the metabolic imbalance associated with FPS1S overexpression is, in fact, triggered by the developmental decline of HMGR activity.

Characterisation of the gene family encoding acetoacetyl-CoA thiolase in Arabidopsis
Iván Ahumada,Albert Cairó,Andréa Hemmerlin,Victor Gonzalez,Irene Pateraki,Thomas J. Bach,Manuel Rodríguez-Concepción,Narciso Campos,Albert Boronat +8 more
TL;DR: The characterisation of two genes from Arabidopsis thaliana L., ACT1 and ACT2, which encode two closely related AACT isoforms, are reported, in agreement with the involvement of AACT2 in catalysing the first step of the mevalonate pathway.
