TL;DR: Park and Sandefour as discussed by the authors analyzed the intersecting effects of these two factors and revealed some important country-specific differences when groups with similar status and identical language backgrounds were compared, and they suggested that behind the performance gap there must be other factors related to the organisation and practices of education.
