Phase II Trial of Sorafenib in Metastatic Thyroid Cancer
Richard T. Kloos,Matthew D. Ringel,Michael V. Knopp,Nathan Hall,Mark A. King,Robert Stevens,Jiachao Liang,Paul E. Wakely,Vasyl Vasko,Motoyasu Saji,Jennifer Rittenberry,Lai Wei,Daria Arbogast,Minden Collamore,John J. Wright,Michael R. Grever,Manisha H. Shah +16 more
TL;DR: Sorafenib is reasonably well-tolerated therapy with clinical and biologic antitumor activity in metastatic PTC and four of 10 paired tumor biopsies from PTC patients showed a reduction in levels of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor phosphorylated, ERK phosphorylation, and in VEGF expression during sorafenIB therapy.
Metformin Targets Mitochondrial Glycerophosphate Dehydrogenase to Control Rate of Oxidative Phosphorylation and Growth of Thyroid Cancer In Vitro and In Vivo.
Shilpa Thakur,Brianna Daley,Kelli Gaskins,Vasyl Vasko,Myriem Boufraqech,Dhaval Patel,Carole Sourbier,Jeff M. Reece,Sheue-yann Cheng,Electron Kebebew,Sunita K. Agarwal,Joanna Klubo-Gwiezdzinska +11 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated for the first time that MGPDH is overexpressed in thyroid cancer compared with normal thyroid, and it is established thatMGPDH regulates human thyroid cancer cell growth and OXPHOS rate in vitro.
Setbp1 promotes the self-renewal of murine myeloid progenitors via activation of Hoxa9 and Hoxa10
Kevin Oakley,Yufen Han,Bandana A. Vishwakarma,Su Chu,Ravi Bhatia,Kristbjorn O. Gudmundsson,Jonathan R. Keller,Xiongfong Chen,Vasyl Vasko,Nancy A. Jenkins,Neal G. Copeland,Yang Du +11 more
TL;DR: It is shown that Setbp1 overexpression efficiently confers self-renewal capability to myeloid progenitors in vitro, causing their immortalization in the presence of stem cell factor and IL-3, and that Hoxa9 and HoxA10 mRNA are present at dramatically higher levels in SetBP1-immortalized cells compared with other immortalized cells.

Molecular mechanisms involved in differentiated thyroid cancer invasion and metastasis.
Vasyl Vasko,Motoyasu Saji +1 more
TL;DR: The molecular mechanisms that control cell migration during embryological development, such as epithelial to mesenchymal transition, appear to be reactivated in invading thyroid cancer cells.

Akt1 deficiency delays tumor progression, vascular invasion, and distant metastasis in a murine model of thyroid cancer.
Motoyasu Saji,K. Narahara,Samantha K McCarty,Vasyl Vasko,K. M. D. La Perle,Kyle Porter,David Jarjoura,C. Lu,Sheue-yann Cheng,Matthew D. Ringel +9 more
TL;DR: Thyroid cancer development and progression in TR βPV/PV mice are Akt1-dependent, consistent with a tumor progression-promoting role in this murine thyroid cancer model.
