Missense mutation of Fmr1 results in impaired AMPAR-mediated plasticity and socio-cognitive deficits in mice.
Marta Prieto,Alessandra Folci,Gwénola Poupon,Sara Schiavi,Valeria Buzzelli,Marie Pronot,Urielle François,Paula A. Pousinha,N. Lattuada,Sophie Abelanet,Sara Castagnola,Magda Chafai,Anouar Khayachi,Carole Gwizdek,Frédéric Brau,Emmanuel Deval,Maura Francolini,Barbara Bardoni,Yann Humeau,Viviana Trezza,Stéphane Martin +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a knock-in mouse model expressing the FMRP-R138Q protein was generated to investigate the mechanisms underlying Fragile X syndrome caused by this mutation, and they demonstrated that neurons show an increased spine density associated with synaptic ultrastructural defects and increased AMPA receptor surface expression.
Perinatal supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids corrects the aberrant social and cognitive traits observed in a genetic model of autism based on FMR1 deletion in rats.
Sara Schiavi,Emilia Carbone,Francesca Melancia,Valeria Buzzelli,Antonia Manduca,Patrizia Campolongo,Valentina Pallottini,Viviana Trezza +7 more
TL;DR: The results support the validity of the Fmr1-Δexon 8 rat model to mimic key autistic-like features and support an important role of omega-3 PUFAs during of neurodevelopment.

Regulation of oxytocin receptor gene expression in obsessive–compulsive disorder: a possible role for the microbiota-host epigenetic axis
Claudio D'Addario,Mariangela Pucci,Fabio Bellia,Antonio Girella,Annalaura Sabatucci,Federico Banti,Matteo Vismara,Beatrice Benatti,Luca Ferrara,Federica Fasciana,Laura Celebre,Caterina Viganò,Luca Elli,Manuel Sergi,Mauro Maccarrone,Valeria Buzzelli,Viviana Trezza,Bernardo Dell'Osso +17 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the transcriptional regulation of the oxytocin receptor gene and, in saliva, also the different levels of major phyla was investigated in socially isolated rats showing stereotyped behaviors reminiscent of OCD.
Psilocybin mitigates the cognitive deficits observed in a rat model of Fragile X syndrome
Valeria Buzzelli,Emilia Carbone,Antonia Manduca,Sara Schiavi,A. Di Feo,Julia V. Perederiy,Kyle H Ambert,Marvin H. Hausman,Viviana Trezza +8 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided of the beneficial effects of different schedules of psilocybin treatment in mitigating the short-term cognitive deficit observed in a rat model of FXS, which supports the hypothesis that serotonin-modulating drugs such as pSilocybin may be useful to ameliorate ASD-related cognitive deficits.

Maternal Immune Activation Induced by Prenatal Lipopolysaccharide Exposure Leads to Long-Lasting Autistic-like Social, Cognitive and Immune Alterations in Male Wistar Rats
Emilia Carbone,Valeria Buzzelli,Antonia Manduca,Stefano Leone,Alessandro Rava,Viviana Trezza +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the impact of maternal immune activation (MIA) caused by exposure to pathogens or inflammation during critical periods of gestation and an increased susceptibility to the development of various psychiatric and neurological disorders, including autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), in the offspring was investigated.
