Sustainable and recoverable waste-based magnetic nanocomposites used for the removal of pharmaceuticals from wastewater
Luciana S. Rocha,Érika M. L. Sousa,Diogo Pereira,María Victoria Gil,Gonzalo Otero-Irurueta,Maria J. Hortiguela Gallo,Marta Otero,Valdemar I. Esteves,Vânia Calisto +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors aimed at producing easily recoverable magnetic iron-oxide functionalized activated carbons (AC) through environmentally and energetically sustainable methods, evaluating their efficacy towards the removal of the pharmaceuticals diclofenac (DCF) and venlafaxine (VEN) from different aqueous matrices (ultrapure water and wastewater treatment plant effluents).
Photosensitized Degradation of 17β-estradiol and 17α-ethinylestradiol: Role of Humic Substances Fractions.
TL;DR: The maximum photodegradation was obtained in an estuarine water sample, known to be rich in FAs and XAD-4 fractions and poor in HAs, showing that not only is the presence of organic matter an important factor for the photode degradation increase, as also the type of organic Matter is determinant.
Single and multi-component adsorption of psychiatric pharmaceuticals onto alternative and commercial carbons.
Vânia Calisto,Guilaine Jaria,Carla Patrícia Silva,Catarina I.A. Ferreira,Marta Otero,Valdemar I. Esteves +5 more
TL;DR: This work describes the adsorptive removal of three widely consumed psychiatric pharmaceuticals from ultrapure water by using a commercial activated carbon and a non-activated waste-based carbon produced by pyrolysis of primary paper mill sludge.
