Polymer encapsulants for microelectronics: mechanisms for protection and failure
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the interplay among surface impurity levels, temperature, and relative humidity (RH) for electrochemical failure in microelectronics and find that leakage currents are small (approximately 1-10 pA) and insensitive to surface contamination levels.

Polymer Encapsulated Microelectronics: Mechanisms of Protection and Failure
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied both bare combs and combs encapsulated with polysiloxane and performed contamination-by-design experiments by deliberately introducing known amounts of NaCl, CaCl2 and sucrose onto the comb surface.
