An experiment measuring electroproduction of hypernuclei has been performed in Hall A at Jefferson Lab on a $^{12}$C target. In order to increase counting rates and provide unambiguous kaon identification two superconducting septum magnets and a Ring Imaging CHerenkov detector (RICH) were added to the Hall A standard equipment. An unprecedented energy resolution of less than 700 keV FWHM has been achieved. Thus, the observed \lam{12}{B} spectrum shows for the first time identifiable strength in the core-excited region between the ground-state {\it s}-wave $\Lambda$ peak and the 11 MeV {\it p}-wave $\Lambda$ peak.

It has been ten years since the first report for a positive strangeness pentaquark-like baryon state. However, the existence of the pentaquark state is still controversial. Some contradictions between the experiments are unsolved. In this paper, we review the experimental search for the pentaquark candidates Θ+, Θ++, Ξ- -, and N* in detail. We review the experiments with positive results and compare the experiments with similar conditions but opposite results.

Present status on experimental search for pentaquarks

In the research field concerning the nuclear transmutation of long-lived radionuclides, numerous isotopically enriched elements have been irradiated in the Phenix French reactor in order to determine basic neutronic data. The precise and accurate measurement of isotopic composition of these elements after irradiation is of prime interest. Among these elements, the 95Mo target presents an interesting analytical challenge as the irradiation generates, among others, the interfering isotopes 92Mo and 92Zr. A method using multiple collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICPMS) has been developed for the precise measurement of Mo isotope composition in natural Mo and 95Mo enriched samples solutions in the presence of Zr isobaric interferences. The Mo/Zr separation was performed in situ by injecting N2O as a reaction gas in the collision–reaction cell of the instrument. The reason why a selective chemical reaction of Zr+ with N2O forms mainly ZrO2+ product whereas Mo is not reactive, is explained. This technique leads to an efficient separation of Mo and Zr, reflected by the similar accuracy and uncertainty obtained for natural and isotopically enriched Mo isotope composition with and without Zr addition. This study demonstrates the capability of the collision–reaction cell of the MC-ICPMS to separate efficiently Mo and Zr, instead of using chemical separation techniques, and to produce precise and reproducible Mo isotopic data.

We present high precision, low- and high-resolution tungsten isotope measurements of iron meteorites Cape York (IIIAB), Rhine Villa (IIIE), Bendego (IC), and the IVB iron meteorites Tlacotepec, Skookum, and Weaver Mountains, as well as CI chondrite Ivuna, a CV3 chondrite refractory inclusion (CAI BE), and terrestrial standards. Our high precision tungsten isotope data show that the distribution of the rare p-process nuclide 180W is homogeneous among chondrites, iron meteorites, and the refractory inclusion. One exception to this pattern is the IVB iron meteorite group, which displays variable excesses relative to the terrestrial standard, possibly related to decay of rare 184Os. Such anomalies are not the result of analytical artifacts and cannot be caused by sampling of a protoplanetary disk characterized by p-process isotope heterogeneity. In contrast, we find that 183W is variable due to a nucleosynthetic s-process deficit/r-process excess among chondrites and iron meteorites. This variability supports the widespread nucleosynthetic s/r-process heterogeneity in the protoplanetary disk inferred from other isotope systems and we show that W and Ni isotope variability is correlated. Correlated isotope heterogeneity for elements of distinct nucleosynthetic origin (183W and 58Ni) is best explained by thermal processing in the protoplanetary disk during which thermally labile carrier phases are unmixed by vaporization thereby imparting isotope anomalies on the residual processed reservoir.

Tungsten isotopes in bulk meteorites and their inclusions—Implications for processing of presolar components in the solar protoplanetary disk

A high-resolution ({sigma}{sub instr.} = 1.5 MeV) search for narrow states ({Lambda} < 10 MeV) with masses of M{sub x} {approx} 1500-1850 MeV in ep {yields} e{prime}K{sup +}X,e{prime}K{sup -}X, and e{prime}{pi}{sup +}X electroproduction at small angles and low Q{sup 2} was performed. These states would be candidate partner states of the reported {Theta}{sup +}(1540) pentaquark. No statistically significant signal was observed in any of the channels at 90% C.L. Upper limits on forward production were determined to be between 0.8% and 4.9% of the {Lambda}(1520) production cross section, depending on the channel and the assumed mass and width of the state.
