Identifying the morphological characteristics of genetic material such as leaf, flower, yield, and fruit shape is crucial to genetic diversity assessment. Agronomic and morphological traits of 47 tomato plants in F2 generation were assessed, as well as their resistance to Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV) and Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus (TYLCV). The highest average fruit weight of the tomato lines in F2 generation was measured in the plants of the line with pink beef fruit type (G300), while the lowest was measured in the plants of the lines with round (cocktail) (S15) and ovate (V30, V31 and V32) fruit types. The highest fruit flesh firmness was measured as 2.74 kg/cm2 in F2 plants of line S230 with single red fruit type. The highest SSC (soluble solids content) was measured in F2 plants of line V31 and S230 with 6.93% and 6.73%, respectively. The longest internode was determined in F2 plants of the line with single red (S230) fruit type, while the highest stem diameter was measured in plants of the line with pink (G300) fruit type. Despite the variation in leaf color, G300 and S230 plants have potato-shaped leaves, while the other lines have tomato-shaped leaves. There were 2 homozygote resistant plants and 8 heterozygote resistant plants among the F2 plants. Among the F2 plants, 2 plants were homozygote resistant and 8 plants were heterozygote resistant to TYLCV. Heterozygote resistance to TSWV was detected only in 6 plants of line V30 and no resistance to TSWV was detected in plants of other lines. The F3 lines obtained by selfing because of the study can be the material of the breeding programmes in the coming years and testing studies against biotic and abiotic factors should be carried out. The results obtained here should be reinforced with further studies such as the determination of post-harvest preservation storage and shelf-life potentials. 

Characterization of F2 generation tomato plants and marker assisted selection against tomato spotted wilt virus (tswv) and tomato yellow leaf curl virus (tylcv)

The purpose of this study was to ascertain some morphological traits and interrelationships of 36 genotypes of cherry tomatoes that were gathered from Turkey and Kyrgyzstan. Measurements and observations include flower number of cluster, leaf length, leaf width, leaf attitude, fruit color, fruit neck shape, fruit cross-sectional shape, fruit weight, fruit firmness, time of maturity, number of locules, thickness of pericarp, and total soluable solid content, in accordance with the guidelines of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV). The genotypes T40 (62.7 g), T24 (50.8 g), T107 (50 g), T103 (41.4 g), and T105 (40.8 g) had the highest average fruit weights, whereas T3 (9.4 g) and K1 (10.6 g) had the lowest fruit weights. The pericarp had an average thickness of 3.82 mm and an average of 2.49 locules. A spherical fruit cross-section was observed in 97.2% of genotypes. Genotype K2 had the highest total soluble solids content (TTSC%) at 9.4%, whereas genotype K13 had the lowest TTSC% at 3.1%. To measure the data, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used. Five separate principle component axes were identified via PCA, and these axes together account for 75.57% of the dataset's variation. These principal components' eigenvalues, which varied from 1.07 to 3.24, showed how much variance was accounted for by each component. The PCA results showed that the genotypes T107, T40, T105, and T87 performed better in PC1 in terms of the number of locules, fruit weight, fruit cross-sectional shape, and pericarp thickness characteristics. Fruit color was influenced by genotypes T90 and T142, fruit firmness by genotype T40, and total soluble solids content by genotype T98. The indigenous cherry tomato varieties from Turkey and Kyrgyzstan were shown to have a large amount of morphological variety, which may be useful for breeding initiatives in the future. 

Determination of Local Cherry Tomato Genotypes' Agromorphological Features in Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan

This study was carried out in order to determine some morphological characteristics of 240 tomato genotypes at S2 level and to demonstrate the usability of these materials in breeding programs. Accordingly, the average fruit weight was between 553.11 gr and 74.83 gr. The mean pericarp thickness, carpel number, and soluble dry matter content of the genotypes were 7.38 mm, 3.6 pieces and 4.04% brix, respectively. Based on these measurements and observations, tomato genotypes were also investigated using the Cluster and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) methods. According to the PCA results, the first component explained 24.1% of the total variance, and the number of fruit carpels, average fruit weight, and fruit width were the most highly explained parameters. The second and third main components constituted 13.06% and 11.16% of the total. Based on the results of fruit characterization studies, genotypes 233, 447, 126, 22, 391, 118, 71, 100, 340, 102 were determined as superior. Overall, A high degree of morphological variation was detected among the characterized tomato genotypes.

An experiment was carried out in one of Unheated greenhouses of the Department of Horticulture and Landscaping at the College of Agriculture-Diyala University during the fall season2021/2022 where the seeds were sown eight pure lines of Cherry tomato the entry is:(LA3002, LA2838A, LA0797, LA4355, LA7371, LA3534, LA3535, LA3530)With the aim of evaluating its field performance and estimating some of its genetic parameters, the following characteristics were studied: number of fruits per plant, average fruit weight (g), plant yield (g), total yield (Ton greenhouse −1), vitamin C, Lycopene and beta-carotene100gm −1. and the results showed that lines the pure ones differed significantly among themselves under the probability level of 0.05 and 0.01 in all studied traits, and outperforming the pure line LA2838A Significantly four characteristics: the number of fruits in the plant and vitamin C Lycopene and beta-carotene reached (365.666 fruits.plant−1, 0.326 mg .100 gm−1, 5.62 mg. gm−1 and 0.333 mg. gm−1), respectively. The genetic, environmental and phenotypic variance differed from zero significantly for all studied traits, and the genetic variance was greater than the environmental variance for all traits, and the values of heritability in the broad sense and the expected genetic improvement as a percentage of the average trait were high for all traits except for lycopene trait if it was average for both.

Estimation of some Genetic Parameters and Field Evaluation for Pure Lines of Cherry Tomato

This study was carried out to determine some morphological characteristics of 94 tomato genotypes at the S4 level and to reveal the relationships between these materials. In the study, leaf attitude, leaf length, leaf width, number of flowers, fruit color, fruit weight, fruit width, fruit length, the thickness of pericarp, fruit shape, fruit diameter, number of locules, and total soluble solid content (TTSC) were measured and observed in these genotypes. As a result of the phenotypic assessment, the maximum fruit weight values of the genotypes were observed as in G9 (317.59 g), G54 (310 g), G92 (292.85 g), G70 (287.01 g), and G110 (276.66 g); and the lowest fruit weight values were observed in G26 (18.302 g) and G8 (14.48 g). Average fruit length, fruit width, pericarp thickness, and the number of carpels were recorded (69.09 mm, 56.90 mm, 6.37 mm, and 4 carpels respectively). Tomato genotypes were also investigated using Cluster and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method based on these measurements and observations. As a result of this analysis, five independent principal component axes were obtained. While these axes represent 69.28% of the total variation, the eigen values were ranged between 1.06 and 4.02. According to the PCA analysis results, genotypes G7, G81, G93, and G103 were prominent in terms of leaf length, fruit width, fruit weight, and carpel number parameters. Based on TSSC results, the G65 genotype was found to be the most prominent one, and the genotypes G12 and G114 exhibit promising results for fruit color. A high degree of morphological variation was detected among tomato genotypes.

Determination of Morphological Characteristics of Some Prominent Tomato Genotypes

Pepper is an important variety of vegetable that has economic value in human nutrition in Turkey and in the world. Continuous changes in producer and consumer demands also create a competitive environment in pepper breeding. Green pepper cultivation is generally carried out in greenhouse cultivation, and its cultivation has become widespread in open field conditions. In the study, 8 F1 (G12, G11, K42, B25, L9, Z22, G14 and L10) pepper varieties with superior characteristics were used as plant material. Some plant, leaf and fruit characteristics as well as yield and quality parameters were examined. As a result of the principal components analysis (PCA) made using theese measurements and observations, the study was explained variations in 6 components at a high rate of 97.94%. G11 and G12 cultivar candidates are located in the positive region of both components in the Score plot graph drawn from the first two components which means that these two candidates showed the highest performance among those evaluated ones. These cultivar candidates showed superior characteristics in terms of yield, fruit weight, fruit width, TTS, pH, L and b parameters. It is thought that these cultivar candidates can be grown in open land conditions having semi-arid climates such as Konya and will contribute to the country's agriculture production.
