Challenges and Opportunities with Highly Brilliant X-ray Sources for multi-Modal in-Situ and Operando Characterization of Solar Cells
Michael Stuckelberger,Tara Nietzold,Bradley West,Trumann Walker,Christina Ossig,Maik Kahnt,Felix Wittwer,Junjing Deng,J. Maser,Barry P. Lai,Z. Cai,Volker Rose,Andrew Ulvestad,M. Holt,S. Hruszkewycz,James J. Dynes,J. Wang,Damien Salomon,Rémi Tucoulou,Xiaojing Huang,Hanfei Yan,Evgeny Nazaretski,Yong S. Chu,Christian G. Schroer,Mariana I. Bertoni +24 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed cost-effective, high-efficiency thin-film (TF) solar cells with polycrystalline absorbers, including CdTe, Cu(In,Ga)Se2, III/V semiconductors and metal-halide perovskites such as the archetypical methyl-ammonium lead iodide (MAPI).

Distribution of Copper States, Phases, and Defects across the Depth of a Cu-Doped CdTe Solar Cell
Srisuda Rojsatien,Arun Mannodi-Kanakkithodi,Trumann Walker,Niranjana Mohan Kumar,Tara Nietzold,Eric Colegrove,Dan Mao,Michael Stuckelberger,Barry Lai,Zhonghou Cai,Maria K Y Chan,Mariana I. Bertoni +11 more
TL;DR: This study uses X-ray microscopy to investigate the distribution of copper states, phases, and defects across the depth of a Cu-doped CdTe solar cell, revealing inhomogeneous Cu environments and various oxidation states, including Cu1+ and Cu2+, near the CdS/CdTe junction.

Quantitative analysis of Cu XANES spectra using linear combination fitting of binary mixtures simulated by FEFF9
Srisuda Rojsatien,Arun Mannodi-Kanakkithodi,Trumann Walker,Tara Nietzold,Eric Colegrove,Barry Lai,Zhonghou Cai,Martin Holt,Maria K. Y. Chan,Mariana I. Bertoni +9 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated the use of linear combination fitting (LCF) of XANES spectra for the particular case of Cu doping in CdTe and showed that the experimental data seem to be accurately represented by standards of Cu 2 Te and its substoichiometric counterpart, Cu 1.43 Te.

Nano-scale Defect Analysis Through K-Means Clustering of CuInSe 2 Solar Cells with Ag and K Incorporation
Tara Nietzold,Michael Stuckelberger,Trumann Walker,Nicholas Valdes,Bradley West,Barry Lai,William N. Shafarman,Mariana I. Bertoni +7 more
- 16 Jun 2019
TL;DR: In this paper, a case study using CuInSe 2 solar cells treated with Ag-alloying and KF-post-deposition treatment (PDT) is presented, where the implementation of K-means clustering is studied for its ability to identify statistically meaningful results from XRF/XBIC data.
2
Cu-Local Structures and Their Relation with Nanoscale Electrical Performance in CdTe
Srisuda Rojsatien,Trumann Walker,Tara Nietzold,Barry Lai,Eric Colegrove,Michael Stuckelberger,Arun Mannodi Kanakkithodi,Maria K. Y. Chan,Mariana I. Bertoni +8 more
- 14 Jun 2020
TL;DR: In this article, the X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) coupled with Xray microscopy was used to investigate good and poor performing regions in Cu-doped CdTe devices.
