Body Mass Index and Mortality Among Adults Undergoing Cardiac Surgery: A Nationwide Study With a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Giovanni Mariscalco,Marcin Wozniak,Alan G. Dawson,Giuseppe Filiberto Serraino,Richard Porter,Mintu Nath,Catherine Klersy,Tracy Kumar,Gavin J. Murphy +8 more
TL;DR: The protective effects of obesity were less in patients with severe chronic renal, lung, or cardiac disease and greater in older patients and in those with complications of obesity, including the metabolic syndrome and atherosclerosis.

Identifying research priorities in cardiac surgery: a report from the James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership in adult heart surgery.
TL;DR: This Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) identified the priorities and unmet needs of patients and clinicians in cardiac surgery and the next step is to disseminate and implement the PSP results to ensure that these priorities shape future research and improve clinical services.

Randomized trial of red cell washing for the prevention of transfusion-associated organ injury in cardiac surgery.
Marcin Wozniak,Nikol Sullo,Saqib Qureshi,William Dott,Rebecca Cardigan,M Wiltshire,Tom Morris,Mintu Nath,N. Bittar,S K Bhudia,Tracy Kumar,Alison H. Goodall,Gavin J. Murphy +12 more
TL;DR: The results do not support a hypothesis that allogenic red blood cell washing has clinical benefits in cardiac surgery and no difference was found with respect to perioperative serum interleukin‐8 values.

A Comparison of Red Cell Rejuvenation versus Mechanical Washing for the Prevention of Transfusion-associated Organ Injury in Swine.
Marcin J Woźniak,Saqib Qureshi,Nikol Sullo,William Dott,Rebecca Cardigan,Michael Wiltshire,Mintu Nath,Nishith N. Patel,Tracy Kumar,Alison H. Goodall,Gavin J. Murphy +10 more
TL;DR: Reversal of the red cell storage lesion by rejuvenation reduces transfusion-associated organ injury in swine.
Activation of the innate immune response and organ injury after cardiac surgery: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised trials and analysis of individual patient data from randomised and non-randomised studies
Riccardo Abbasciano,Florence Lai,Marius Roman,Angelica Rizzello,Suraj Pathak,Joussi Ramzi,Carla Lucarelli,Georgia R Layton,Tracy Kumar,Marcin Wozniak,Bryony Eagle-Hemming,Enoch Akowuah,Chris A Rogers,Gianni D Angelini,Gavin J. Murphy +14 more
TL;DR: A systematic review of trials of interventions targeting the inflammatory response to cardiac surgery reporting treatment effects on both innate immune system cytokines and organ injury was performed by as mentioned in this paper, who found that the certainty of the evidence for a causal relationship between innate immune response activation and organ injuries after cardiac surgery is low.
