TL;DR: Time-resolved serial femtosecond crystallography at an x-ray free electron laser shows how motions are choreographed as bR transports protons uphill against a transmembrane concentration gradient.
XFEL structures of the influenza M2 proton channel: Room temperature water networks and insights into proton conduction

TL;DR: High-resolution structures of the influenza M2 channel further the understanding of how protons are transported across a membrane bilayer through a constricted membrane protein environment and provides a graphical view of the response of water to a change in charge within a restricted channel environment.

TL;DR: Time-resolved crystallographic studies using X-ray free electron lasers reveal the molecular mechanism of halide ion transfer in a light-driven chloride pump from a marine flavobacterium, indicating a common mechanism in chloride pumping rhodopsins, as compared to previous low-temperature trapping studies of chloride pumps.
Time-resolved serial crystallography to track the dynamics of carbon monoxide in the active site of cytochrome c oxidase

TL;DR: This work uses time-resolved serial femtosecond crystallography to study the structural response of the active site upon flash photolysis of carbon monoxide (CO) from the reduced heme a3 of ba3-type CcO, and shows how CO is stabilized on CuB through interactions with a transiently ordered water molecule.
