Chitin, Chitosan, and Glycated Chitosan Regulate Immune Responses: The Novel Adjuvants for Cancer Vaccine
Xiaosong Li,Min Min,Nan Du,Gu Ying,Tomas Hode,Mark F. Naylor,Dianjun Chen,Robert E. Nordquist,Wei R. Chen +8 more
TL;DR: The adjuvant properties of chitin and chitOSan were discussed, and some detailed information about glycated chitosan and ch itosan nanoparticles was presented to illustrate the trend for future development.
Preliminary safety and efficacy results of laser immunotherapy for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer patients
Xiaosong Li,Gabriela L. Ferrel,Maria C. Guerra,Tomas Hode,John A. Lunn,Orn Adalsteinsson,Robert E. Nordquist,Hong Liu,Wei R. Chen +8 more
TL;DR: The initial outcomes of this clinical trial show that LIT is well tolerated and is promising in the treatment of metastatic breast cancer.

N-dihydrogalactochitosan as immune and direct antitumor agent amplifying the effects of photodynamic therapy and photodynamic therapy-generated vaccines.
Mladen Korbelik,Judit P. Banáth,Wei Zhang,Paul Gallagher,Tomas Hode,Samuel S.K. Lam,Wei R. Chen +6 more
TL;DR: The adjunct GC treatment was found to enhance therapeutic benefit obtained with PDT vaccine, while reducing the numbers of myeloid-derived suppressor cells, and represents a uniquely promising adjunct for various PDT protocols, photothermal and similar rapid tumor-ablating therapies.

Assessment of thermal effects of interstitial laser phototherapy on mammary tumors using proton resonance frequency method
Kelvin Le,Xiaosong Li,Xiaosong Li,Daniel Figueroa,Rheal A. Towner,Philippe Garteiser,Debra Saunders,Nataliya Smith,Hong Liu,Tomas Hode,Robert E. Nordquist,Wei R. Chen +11 more
TL;DR: This work provides a basic understanding of the photothermal interaction needed to control the thermal damage inside a tumor using interstitial laser treatment, and may lead to an optimal protocol for future cancer treatment usingInterstitial phototherapy in conjunction with immunotherapy.
The importance of coherence in phototherapy
Tomas Hode,Donald D. Duncan,Sean J. Kirkpatrick,Peter Jenkins,Lars Hode +4 more
- 18 Feb 2009
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of laser speckle in vivo in phototherapy have been investigated and it was shown that in deep tissue where the photon flux is extremely low, the increased probability of photon absorption from individual laser specckles increases the probability of reaching the necessary power density thresholds.
