A series of scheelite-type Eu3+-activated CaMoO4 phosphors were synthesized by the nitrate-citrate gel combustion method. All the compounds crystallized in the tetragonal structure with space group I4(1)/a (No. 88). FESEM results reveal the spherical-like morphology. The CaMoO4 phosphor exhibited broad emission centered at 500 nm under the excitation of 298 nm wavelength, while Eu3+-activated CaMoO4 shows an intense characteristic red emission peak at 615 nm at different excitation wavelengths, due to D-5(0) -> F-7(2) transition of Eu3+ ions. The intensities of transitions between different J levels depend on the symmetry of the local environment of Eu3+ ions and were estimated using the Judd-Ofelt analysis. The high asymmetric ratio revealed that Eu3+ occupies sites with a low symmetry and without an inversion center. The CIE chromaticity co-ordinates (x, y) were calculated from emission spectra, and the values were close to the NTSC standard. Therefore, the present phosphor is highly useful for LEDs applications.

Structural, optical and impedance spectroscopic characterizations of RE2Zr2O7 (RE = La, Y) ceramics

Ce/Eu-doped LiBaB9O15 (LBB) samples were prepared via conventional high temperature solid state reactions. The XRD patterns, crystal structures, luminescence properties, and decay times were investigated systematically. Ce3+ ions exist in LBB:xCe3+ that were synthesized in a reducing atmosphere and in an air atmosphere. However, we observed Eu2+ ions in LBB:yEu2+ in a reducing atmosphere and Eu3+ ions in LBB:zEu3+ in an air atmosphere. LBB:0.05Ce3+,yEu2+ phosphors synthesized in a reducing atmosphere only possess Ce3+ and Eu2+ and exhibit a broad excitation band ranging from 350 to 425 nm. A reduction phenomenon of Eu3+ → Eu2+ and coexistence of Ce4+, Ce3+, Eu2+ and Eu3+ were observed when LBB:0.05Ce,wEu phosphors were synthesized in an air atmosphere. There are three processes in LBB:0.05Ce,wEu, i.e., energy transfers from Ce3+ to Eu2+ and from Eu2+ to Eu3+, and metal–metal charge transfer (MMCT) between Ce3+ and Eu3+. Moreover, the MMCT process is dominant in LBB:0.05Ce,wEu due to less efficient energy transfer from Ce3+ to Eu2+. Moreover, the CIE coordinates of LBB:0.05Ce,wEu vary systematically from light blue (0.313, 0.129) to red (0.589, 0.315) for LBB:0.05Ce3+,wEu synthesized in air with the changes in Eu ion concentration. Thus, we can control the color by controlling the synthesis atmospheres.

Hydrothermal synthesis of YPO4:Eu3+ hexagonal prisms microarchitectures: Tunable morphology, formation mechanism, and recovery luminescence properties

The Eu3+‐doped La2Zr2O7phosphor with rod‐like morphology was successfully synthesized by conventional solid state reaction and hydrothermal method. X‐ray diffraction patterns, transmission electron microscopy, and photoluminescence spectra were employed to characterize its structure and morphology as well as luminescent properties. The results indicated that the red‐emitting phosphor La2Zr2O7:Eu3+ had well crystallized and belonged to the cubic structure with space group of Fd3m. The as‐obtained product mainly appeared as straight nanorods with an average diameter of 47 nm and length of 50–700 nm. The possible growth mechanism was also discussed. It was found that under blue excitation with a wavelength of 466 nm, the La2Zr2O7:Eu3+ phosphor exhibited a characteristic red emission at 616 nm that was attributed to the hypersensitive 5D0→7F2electric dipole transition of Eu3+ ions. Synthesis, Characterization and Luminescent Properties of La2Zr2O7:Eu3+ Nanorods

NaGd(WO4)2:Eu3+ nanotubes have been successfully synthesized by the hydrothermal method using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as removable templates. X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and photoluminescence were used to characterize the product. It is demonstrated that CNTs are fully coated with an amorphous NaGd(WO4)2:Eu3+ layer, which is about 7 nm thick and almost continuous and uniform. After the NaGd(WO4)2:Eu3+/CNTs composites have been calcined at 500 or 600 °C, NaGd(WO4)2:Eu3+ nanotubes are obtained by removing the CNTs templates, and the outer diameter of that is about 40 nm. The luminescence properties of the NaGd(WO4)2:Eu3+ nanotubes calcined at various temperatures have been investigated. The results indicate that the products exhibit a characteristic red emission peak of Eu3+ ions at 615 nm. The emission intensity decreases with the increasing of annealing temperature, which is probably because a few residual carbons doped in NaGd(WO4)2:Eu3+ nanotubes and many oxygen vacancies could promote the intensity of red emission of Eu3+.

Preparation, characterization, and luminescent properties of NaGd(WO 4 ) 2 :Eu 3+ nanotubes using carbon nanotubes as templates

In this paper, the YPO4:Eu3+ (5%) microflakes and YPO4·0.8H2O:Eu3+ (5%) microbundles have been synthesized by a simple EDTA-assisted hydrothermal method. The X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and photoluminescence (PL) were employed to characterize the as-obtained products. It was found that the composition of the product could be changed from YPO4:Eu3+ (5%) to YPO4·0.8H2O:Eu3+ (5%) with a further increase in the amount of EDTA 0.5–1.0 g. The YPO4:Eu3+ (5%) presented the pure tetragonal phase and flake-like microstructure, while the YPO4·0.8H2O:Eu3+ (5%) exhibited the hexagonal phase and bundle-like morphology. The possible formation mechanisms of the two architectures were put forward on the basis of different EDTA amount-morphology experiments. A detailed investigation on the photoluminescence of YPO4·nH2O:Eu3+ (5%) different samples indicated that the luminescent properties of products were strongly dependent on the compositions, morphologies, coordination environment and crystal field symmetry.
