TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the relationship between dimensions of personality and level of cognitive functioning and found strong relations of the personality trait of Openness with several distinct cognitive abilities and smaller relations of other personality traits with specific cognitive abilities.

TL;DR: Finch's work on the neurobiology of aging as mentioned in this paper supports my general conclusion that some cognitive changes likely begin in early adulthood, and he has long advocated research focusing on the entire period of adulthood instead of merely on groups at the extremes.
