TL;DR: Yaroshevich et al. as discussed by the authors proposed a possible photoactivation mechanism of a 35-kDa blue light-triggered photoreceptor, the Orange Carotenoid Protein (OCP), suggesting that the reaction involves the transient formation of a protonated ketocarotinoid (oxocarbenium cation) state.
Probing of carotenoid-tryptophan hydrogen bonding dynamics in the single-tryptophan photoactive Orange Carotenoid Protein.

TL;DR: Following Trp fluorescence of the unique photoactive OCP-3FH variant, the rate of the H-bond breakage is identified and provided novel insights into early events accompanying photoactivation of wild-type OCP.
Hybrid systems of quantum dots mixed with the photosensitive protein phycoerythrin
Eugene G. Maksimov,Timofey S. Gostev,Fedor I. Kuzminov,Nikolai N. Sluchanko,Igor N. Stadnichuk,V. Z. Pashchenko,Andrei B. Rubin +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the Forster resonance energy transfer is discussed as a possible mechanism of energy transfer in quantum dot-phycoerythrin donor-acceptor pairs, and it is shown that the efficiency of energy migration from quantum dots to phycoerythsrin is 88% and the corresponding rate constant is 1.17 × 109 s−1.

Studying photoprotective processes in the green alga Chlorella pyrenoidosa using nonlinear laser fluorimetry
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that zeaxanthin-dependent non-photochemical quenching leads to a significant increase in the rate constant of singlet-singlet annihilation of chlorophyll a excited state, which suggests profound conformational changes in the light-harvesting complexes of photosystem II.

TL;DR: It is suggested that coral reef monitoring of variations in the photophysical characteristics of zooxanthellae might be one of the most effective ways for detecting the influence of global climate change on marine biota in early stages.
