A circularly polarized Fabry-Perot resonant cavity antenna using frequency selective surface-based partial reflecting surface

In this paper, a broadband Fabry-Perot cavity leaky wave antenna is proposed. It consists of a parabolic-shape reflector acted as ground plate, metallic grating-shape FSS acted as cover, and an open-ended waveguide as the feeder. Taking use of parabolic-shape reflector the performance of bandwidth for gain can be improved obviously. A prototype antenna operating at 14GHz is designed. Simulation results show that common bandwidth of 8% for gain-drop 11 <−10dB is obtained.

A 2&#x22217;2 low-profile circularly polarized Fabry-Perot resonator antenna array with a low cost substrate integrated waveguide feed network is presented. Patch squares are introduced on antenna ground as artificial magnetic conductor to resize the total antenna height to a quarter wavelength. The substrate integrated waveguide feed network are deliberately designed to produce a 90° phase difference at four output ports as to create sequential excitations for enhancement of antenna array circularly polarization performance. Whole antenna array structure is validated by HFSS with a gain of 16.5dBi at 5.8GHz and good circular polarization is obtained.

Low-profile circularly polarized Fabry-Perot resonator antenna array with substrate integrated waveguide feed network

Fabry-Perot Resonator (FPR) antennas have attracted significant attention in microwave and millimeter waves due to its properties, such as low complexity, high aperture efficiency and conformal deployment capability. In this paper, a summary of recent researchs on FPR antenna is presented focusing on the different capabilities, technologies and architectures that have been proposed. Several structures, analytic models and research developments is also made. Some interesting topics under recent research are surveyed in detail. Recent works of the authors are also included in this paper.

Recently progress in high gain Fabry-Perot Resonator antenna

This paper designs a circularly polarized Fabry-Perot antenna based on FSS loading. The FSS is composed of a dielectric substrate and two printed metal layers, which are etched on the top and bottom layers of the substrate. The two metal layers are composed of a patch layer and a square loop slot layer. The partially reflecting surface is composed of 8×8 FSS units, and is placed at a distance h from the feed. And the overall size of the proposed CP F-P antenna designed in this paper is about 1.5λ 0 × 1.5λ 0 × 0.5λ 0 . The actual measured impedance bandwidth is 22.2%, the axial ratio bandwidth is 4.3%, and the maximum gain is 10.4 dB.

Circularly Polarized Fabry–Perot Resonant Cavity based on Frequency Selective Surface

In this paper, a broadband circularly polarized Fabry-Perot resonator antenna with simple array thinning technique is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a single layer partially reflective surface formed by ring FSS and a four sequential rotated sparse primary radiators backed with ground. A prototype antenna operating at 10GHz is designed. Simulation results show that a common frequency bandwidth of 12% for S 11 ≤ −10dB and gain-drop ≤ 2 dB and axial ratio ≤ 3 dB is obtained.

Broad bandwidth circularly polarized Fabry-Perot resonator antenna by Simple array thinning technique

A novel low profile circularly polarized Fabry-Perot Resonator (CP-FPR) array of 2×2 elements consisting of the CP-FPR antenna with a linearly polarized feed is presented. The proposed CP-FPR antenna consists of a primary radiator aligned along 45° with linear polarization, a partially reflective surface formed by cross-slot FSS and a nonstandard AMC acting as reflective ground plane. The profile of antenna can also be reduced to a quarter of a wavelength. The array with a compact sequential rotation feeding scheme was optimized to minimize grating lobes and reduce the sidelobe level, even though the element spacing was about two wavelengths. The measured common bandwidth is about 7.4%.
