Apparatus for stripping cable of its outer sheathing includes first and second drive wheels, each having a non-rotating cutter blade extending beyond the wheel periphery. The amount of extension of the cutters is adjustable, and they are located on an imaginary line joining the centers of the wheels, hence cutting takes place in the region of maximum support for, and maximum pull on the cable.

Arranged along a cable path of travel is a first cable guide, a pair of retractable transport rolls, a second cable guide, and a cable gripper unit possessing actuatable grippers. The gripper unit is pivotable throughout a predetermined pivot angle about a pivot axis arranged perpendicular to the cable path of travel and into a cable fitting or processing position. There is also provided a cutter unit. All of these components are arranged in succession in the feed or travel direction of the cable as it moves along the cable path of travel. The pivot axis of the gripper unit is arranged between the end of the first cable guide and the clamping point or nip of the pair of transport rolls. The cable fitting or processing position encloses with the cable path of travel an angle of approximately 90°. The pivot axis piercingly extends through the cable path of travel. The drive arrangement for the gripper unit contains a control for controlling the velocity of movement of the gripper unit throughout the pivot angle thereof, so that such travels with an approximately sinusoidal velocity.

The invention discloses a six-reel steel band armouring machine, comprising a front mounting bracket and a rear mounting bracket, a rotor, six steel band reels, an active band releasing device, a band conduction device, an conductive device, a center adjustable protection tube, a brake apparatus, a motor driving device, an installation base plate and the like. The steel band armouring machine provided by the invention is used for manufacturing fluid delivery high pressure hoses and large-size power cables and controlling cables like a large-size petroleum pipeline, and adopts advanced mechanical structures and electrical appliance control technology to control the rotation speed of six band releasing motors, thus realizing that six steel bands are wound on large-size hoses or cables synchronously with same tensile force and accurate entrance angles, thereby achieving steel band armouring. The invention has advanced control technology, reasonable mechanical structure, simple operation and wide application range.

Recovery of the metal content of salvaged electrical wire, cable or the like is facilitated by a motor driven apparatus in which the wire or cable is fed on to a revolving drum through a notch in a linear cutting element that extends in parallel relationship with the drum. The notch defines a cutting edge which separates one portion of the insulation from another portion and from the metal core. The cutting element is longitudinally slidable relative to the drum enabling the operator to wind successive turns onto successive adjacent locations on the drum by exerting sideward pressure on the wire, cable or the like as it approaches the notch in the cutting element. The coils of stripped wire or the like may then be removed from the drum for reprocessing of the metal.

A coated wire with a metal core is inserted between two rollers, at least one of which has a plurality of circumferential cutting edges. The rollers are adjusted to firmly grasp the wire. The cutting edges of the first roller are axially staggered relative to the cutting edges of the second roller. The distance between the cutting edges of each roller increases along the length of each roller. The depths of the grooves between the cutting edges of each roller differs at selected sections of each roller relative to other sections in each roller, and the width of the grooves is adapted to be less than the diameter of the wire to be stripped. The rollers are rotated at different speeds and in opposite directions to advance the wire through the rollers, slice the coating or jacket, and remove it from the metal core.
