Fracture toughness, fracture energy and slow crack growth of glass as investigated by the Single-Edge Precracked Beam (SEPB) and Chevron-Notched Beam (CNB) methods
Theany To,Fabrice Célarié,Clément Roux-Langlois,Arnaud Bazin,Yann Gueguen,Hervé Orain,Mickaël Le Fur,Vincent Burgaud,Tanguy Rouxel +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the Single-Edge Precracked Beam (SEPB) test is used to assess the slow crack growth behavior in a single experiment lasting for few minutes, and it is shown that it is possible to get either a stable or an unstable final fracture regime (pre-cracked specimen) depending on the testing parameters, and that the unstable case is preferable for the estimation of fracture toughness.

Bond Switching in Densified Oxide Glass Enables Record-High Fracture Toughness
Theany To,Søren Strandskov Sørensen,Johan Frederik Schou Christensen,Rasmus Christensen,Lars Rosgaard Jensen,Michal Bockowski,Mathieu Bauchy,Morten Mattrup Smedskjær +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that with proper control of plasticity mechanisms, record-high values of fracture toughness for transparent bulk oxide glasses can be achieved through proper combination of gas-mediated permanent densification and rational composition design.

On the relation between fracture toughness and crack resistance in oxide glasses
TL;DR: In this article, the authors study the difference in resistance to crack initiation and growth by determining the load required to induce indentation cracking (named crack resistance, CR) and the fracture toughness (KIc), respectively, for six oxide glasses.

Elasticity, hardness, and fracture toughness of sodium aluminoborosilicate glasses
TL;DR: In this article, a series of 20 glasses in the quartenary Na2O-Al2O3-B2O 3-SiO2 system with fixed soda content was studied, and the authors used ultrasonic echography to determine the elastic moduli and Poisson's ratio, while Vickers indentation was used to determine hardness.
