The paper aims is to carry out the needs assessment, and to come up with a suitable model for the establishment of a rehabilitation centre for the disabled in the community in one sub-district in Thailand. In the first stage survey data was collected from 380 participants, which include 110 families with a disabled person and 270 families without a disabled person using proportional sampling method in the households of the 11 study villages. In addition, qualitative data were collected using focus group discussions from 57 community leaders. Results indicate that when having problems with their disability, most of them consult the district hospital (43.6%), followed by family self-care and other (traditional practitioners). According to the responses from the surveyed community members (both disabled and not disabled) the role of government was found to be critical in establishing a community-based rehabilitation centre (CRC) for people with disabilities. However, the community participation in planning and sustaining of such a CRC was also seen as vital. The CRC was seen to provide a variety of services including home visits and visits by a physical therapist. Most felt that the CRC should be integrated into existing structures such as the district community hall, although some also felt it could be on its own. Based on the survey results of the needs of the community it was suggested to set up a disability rehabilitation centre and the development of specific community-based model for the rehabilitation of disabled persons in one sub-district.

Needs Assessment of a Disability Rehabilitation Centre in a Sub-District of Ratchaburi Province in Thailand

This research was aimed to study the readiness and developmentof readiness in social welfare for the disabled of Tambon administrationorganization, Nakhon Pathom Province. The mixed methodology usedin this study included both quantitative research and qualitative researchand it was divided into 2 phrases: (1) to study the readiness of Tambonadministration organizations (TAOs) in Nakhon Pathom Province toprovide services for disabled persons in terms of knowledge, attitudeand participation and (2) to develop the readiness in terms of knowledgeand attitude as well as to transfer how to provide services for disabledpersons by means of seminars with specialists. The population of thisstudy included administrators and staff of TAOs in Nakhon PathomProvince, and they were the sample of this study. This sample wasselected by the purposive sampling technique. The sample group of Firstphrase was composed of two groups: (1) 146 administrators of Tambonadministration organizations, and (2) 1,247 officer of TAOs in Nakhon Pathom Province. Second phrase was 67 participants in seminars, wascomposed of administrators, officer of TAOs in Nakhon Pathom Provinceand people working for or related to the disabled.The research results revealed as follows. The readiness of TAOsin Nakhon Pathom Province to provide services for disabled persons interms of knowledge of the disabled and how to provide appropriate servicewas rated at the high level. The attitude to provide services for disabledpersons was at the highest level. TAOs in Nakhon Pathom Provinceparticipated in providing services for the disabled at the high level interms of health and social services only. The other welfares matterssuch as education, occupation, and income; lodges; and recreation wererated at the low level. The problem was budget for managing welfarebecause it was insufficient and did not co-respond to the real practiceof local welfare management. Moreover, the administrators of TAOsin Nakhon Pathom Province did not set the operation of social welfarefor the disabled at the high level. The disabled also did not realize theirrights and did not co-operate in doing some activities. The researcherdeveloped the readiness TAOs in Nakhon Pathom Province to provideservices for disabled persons by means of seminars, and participantsstated that the seminars provided were useful and they gained somemore knowledge. Readiness and Development of Readiness in Social Welfare Work for the Disabled of Tambon Administration Organizations, Nakhon Pathom Province, Thailand

This research was to study levels of individual beliefs based on Health Belief Model, levels of self-care behavior, levels of health preventive behavior and to study influential relationship between levels of Health Belief Model and levels of self-care behavior, and levels of health preventive behavior. This study is a quantitative research. A study population comprises of 231 seniors (aged 60 years old or above) in a senior club of Bangtoey sub-district, Nakhon Pathom Province. The researcher employed a questionnaire, synthesized from relevant literature. Obtained data were then analyzed by SPSS, based on a sample size of 197 seniors from a simple random sampling technique. The findings revealed that most seniors were married female, with 71 years old, having a monthly income of 1,239 baht, on average. Most of them finished primary school. More than half of the participants (i.e., 51.30%) was classified into a ‘unhealthy’ condition group—which could be subcategorized into a self-assisted and a non self-assisted groups. Most seniors demonstrated high levels on Health Belief Model. Most of them have a ‘rarely practice’ level of self-care behavior, of which an environmental hygiene subcategory ranked first at ‘often’ level, while doing exercise subcategory ranked last at ‘rarely practice’ level. Regarding health preventive behavior, most seniors showed that they were at ‘often’ level, of which diabetes preventive behavior subcategory ranked first. The influential relationship by stepwise regression analysis of Health Belief Model and self-care behavior, and health preventive behavior revealed that there were positive influential variables on health preventive behavior: (1) self-care behaviors on environmental hygiene, (2) food, (3) emotion, and (4) Health Belief Model on perceived susceptibility. These four variables accounted for 50.10% of predictive power on health preventive behavior among seniors.
