Is the feminist project under threat in Europe? This thematic issue addresses the question in both theoretical and empirical ways, focusing on the various ways in which feminist politics are opposed and why, on what the impact of such opposition is, and how to improve our theoretical understanding of this particular manifestation of gender and politics. The issue addresses three major challenges: a need to reflect on the most suited concepts and theories in political and social sciences to understand what is at stake in Europe today; a need to vernacularize existing knowledge while forging global frames of analysis; and a need to avoid the risk of reifying oppositional forces and of reiterating dichotomous frames and categories. The responses to these challenges are: to analyse the threats to the feminist project as parts of larger projects against social justice and equality; to contrast macro narratives by engaging with the microlevel of the anti-feminist project, enabling a critique of mainstream scholarship; to analyse the threats to the feminist project as related to processes of changes to democracy, such as democratic backsliding; to give prominent attention to discursive, epistemic and symbolic processes; and finally to include studies on the response of feminist actors to the threats experienced. This collection of articles offers a variety of perspectives on the various threats to the feminist project in Europe today.

The Feminist Project under Threat in Europe

This article employs a two-level analysis to compare the discursive performance of gender on social media in Hungary and Romania; the two countries with the lowest percentage of women in politics in the European Union (EU). First, by revealing the tension between conservative views about gender roles, and social and political specificities in the two countries, the research illustrates how various parties on the conservative right ideological continuum―from the center-right to right-wing populism―relate to the feminist project. Secondly, it analyzes how selected women politicians within this continuum negotiate their ideological beliefs about gender roles with their political career interests, by means of social media (Facebook). The analytical constructs of idealized motherhood and feminine toughness are employed to examine a period of intensive political campaigning in 2014 in both Hungary and Romania. The study triangulates the multi-layered discursive circumstances (the historical, contextual, and social media contexts) in Hungary and Romania, and maps out the similarities and differences that are disclosed when comparing the selected women politicians. The article makes a significant theoretical and empirical contribution to scholarship on gender and conservatism in particular and raises questions for the wider study of gender, politics, and social media in general.

Antifeminist and "Truly Liberated": Conservative Performances of Gender by Women Politicians in Hungary and Romania

The phenomenon of social media has drawn the attention of the specialists from the political marketing because it contributes quickly and efficiently to the increase of the political product’s visibility and appeals to its supporters for content creation and viral promotion of the political messages. In addition, the candidate can communicate directly with the citizens and may involve them in creating virtual communities. In our study we briefly present the way in which social media was used, timidly at first, during the campaign for the 2008 parliamentary elections, for the 2009 presidential elections and for the 2012 local and parliamentary elections. The importance of social media increased during the 2012 Romanian presidential impeachment referendum and contributed decisively to rallying voters to go to the polls and, implicitly, to the Klaus Iohannis’s victory in the 2014 presidential elections. We have focused especially on Facebook, as social network, because it has managed to attract the largest number of users in Romania. The success of the 2.0 political actors does not imply (only) to use the network as an alternative news channel, but especially to establish the bidirectional connection and constant interaction with virtual friends.

Yet as more members of this generation reach voting age, their propensity to vote remains stagnant. For instance, in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, less than 50% of eligible millennials voted, in comparison to the 69% of baby boomers and 63% of Generation X. Voting is a civic duty essential to a successful democracy; therefore, it is imperative to find solutions to increase millennial political engagement. As millennials represent the largest proportion of users of social media, the purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the relationships between voter registration and voting rates and social media usage. To provide clarification on the issue of millennial voting and voter registration, a conceptual framework was used to explore whether a connection exists between millennial political participation and social media because existing theory was insufficient to address this issue. Using secondary data from the 2016 Millennial Impact Report, 1,050 millennial survey responses were gathered on millennial social media usage, intent to vote, and voter registration. A 2 proportions z-test was used to conclude that there was no difference in voter registration and voting rates between millennials who posted 1 to 3 times per week and those who posted 4 to 7 times per week on social media. The electoral campaign through Social Media. Case Study – 2014 Presidential elections in Romania

Lecturers and students conduct lectures online through online applications such as google meet, zoom meeting, google classroom, and other online learning applications. In addition to using online applications, a lecturer of course also needs to develop his creativity by using these online learning applications coupled with creativity in combining them with other online means such as social media. This research is different from previous research where this research specifically wants to see and describe how the creativity of lecturers in using online learning media will determine the process and results of achieving certain subjects. The method used in this study is a qualitative research method where the researcher does not use data in the form of numbers but rather data in the form of stories. Methods of data collection using observation and interviews to lecturers at Manado State University. Data analysis uses data analysis from Miles and Huberman, interactive nature of data collection with data analysis, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the research are as follows: (1) combining the unima learning management system with the zoom meeting application; (2) using youtube media and zoom meetings; (3) combining google class rooms with the google meet application; (4) the main media for the zoom meeting application being used with instagram and WhatsApp groups; and (5) using the zoom meeting application with the tiktok application. The conclusion means that basically the lecturers at Manado State University have been able to use online learning media creatively and apply them in the learning process.

The Si Tou Timou Tumou Tou is the most prominent Minahasan culture and animates the lives of the people of North Sulawesi in general and the people of the Tomohon city in particular. The values in the local wisdom of "Si Tou Timou Tumou Tou" are closely related to the fundamental values found in the second principle of Pancasila. The local wisdom of "Si Tou Timou Tumou Tou" and the second precept of Pancasila place human nature at an essential level in life.
