Delay composition theory: a reduction-based schedulability theory for distributed real-time systems
Tarek Abdelzaher,Praveen Jayachandran +1 more
- 01 Jan 2010
TL;DR: This thesis develops a new reduction-based analysis methodology for studying the worst-case end-to-end delay and schedulability of real-time jobs in distributed systems, and develops an algebra, called delay composition algebra, based on the delay composition results for systematic transformation of distributed real- time task systems into single-resource task systems such that Schedulability properties of the original system are preserved.

Exploiting social media for Army operations: Syrian crisis use case
TL;DR: A credibility analysis approach and prototype fact-finding technology called the “Apollo Fact-finder” that mitigates the problem of inaccurate or falsified SM data is introduced and applied to tweets collected in the aftermath of the Syrian chemical weapons crisis.

Adaptive web server
Nina Bhatti,Tarek Abdelzaher +1 more
- 16 May 2012
TL;DR: In this paper, a data service system in a data access network system is described, which includes a content server that stores content files for access by external access requests, each of the content files is stored in a full content format and an adapted or degraded content format which is less resource-intensive to serve than the full content formats.

DARTS: Distributed IoT Architecture for Real-Time, Resilient and AI-Compressed Workflows
Ragini Munnaprasad Gupta,Bo Chen,Shengzhong Liu,Tianshi Wang,Sandeep Singh Sandha,Abel Alves de Souza,Klara Nahrstedt,Tarek Abdelzaher,Mani Srivastava,Prashant Shenoy,Jeffrey Smith,Maggie Wigness,N. Suri +12 more
- 25 Jul 2022
TL;DR: This work presents DARTS, which is composed of different IoT, edge, cloud services addressing application portability, real-time robust data transfer and AI-driven capabilities, and benchmark and evaluate these services to showcase the practical deployment of DARTS catering to application-specific constraints.

A Command-by-Intent Architecture for Battlefield Information Acquisition Systems
Jongdeog Lee,Yifan Hao,Tarek Abdelzaher,Kelvin Marcus,Reginald L. Hobbs +4 more
- 05 Sep 2018
TL;DR: Evaluation results show that delegating some decision authority to the data fusion system allows it to save more network resources, while also increasing mission success rate, and the system is particularly well-suited to operation in partially denied or contested environments.
