Conjugated Microporous Poly(aryleneethynylene) Networks

Tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) and its derivatives were originally prepared as strong electron-donor molecules for the development of electrically conducting materials. This Review emphasizes how TTF and its derivatives offer new and in some cases little-exploited possibilities at the molecular to the supramolecular levels, as well as in macromolecular aspects. TTF is a well-established molecule whose interest goes beyond the field of materials chemistry to be considered an important building block in supramolecular chemistry, crystal engineering, and in systems able to operate as machines. At the molecular level, TTF is a readily available molecule which displays a strong electron-donor ability. However, its use as a catalyst for radical-polar crossover reactions, thus mimicking samarium iodide chemistry, has only recently been addressed. Important goals have been achieved in the use of TTF at the macromolecular level where TTF-containing oligomers, polymers, and dendrimers have allowed the preparation of new materials that integrate the unique properties of TTF with the processability and stability that macromolecules display. The TTF molecule has also been successfully used in the construction of redox-active supramolecular systems. Thus, chemical sensors and redox-switchable ligands have been prepared from TTF while molecular shuttles and molecular switches have been prepared from TTF-containing rotaxanes and catenanes. A large synthetic effort has been devoted to the preparation of the so-called organic ferromagnets, many of which are derived from TTF. The main task in these systems is the introduction of ferromagnetic coupling between the conduction electrons and localized electrons. TTF has also played a prominent role in molecular electronics where TTF-containing D-sigma-A molecules have allowed the preparation of the first confirmed unimolecular rectifier. Recently, it has been confirmed that TTF can display efficient nonlinear optic (NLO) responses in the second and third harmonic generation as well as a good thermal stability. These findings can be combined with the redox ability of TTF as an external stimuli to provide a promising strategy for the molecular engineering of switchable NLO materials. Fullerenes endowed with TTF exhibit outstanding photophysical properties leading to charge-separated (CS) states that show remarkable lifetimes.

New Concepts in Tetrathiafulvalene Chemistry.

The control of luminous radiation has extremely important implications for modern and future technologies as well as in medicine. In this Review, we detail chemical structures and their relevant photophysical features for various groups of materials, including organic dyes such as metalloporphyrins and metallophthalocyanines (and derivatives), other common organic materials, mixed metal complexes and clusters, fullerenes, dendrimeric nanocomposites, polymeric materials (organic and/or inorganic), inorganic semiconductors, and other nanoscopic materials, utilized or potentially useful for the realization of devices able to filter in a smart way an external radiation. The concept of smart is referred to the characteristic of those materials that are capable to filter the radiation in a dynamic way without the need of an ancillary system for the activation of the required transmission change. Nonlinear Optical Materials for the Smart Filtering of Optical Radiation.

The current status of organic low-molecular weight and polymeric materials for third-order nonlinear optics is reviewed. The importance of organic materials lies in their promise of large nonlinear optical figure of merit, high optical damage thresholds, ultrafast optical responses, architectural flexibility, and ease of fabrication. Organic materials exhibiting interesting third-order nonlinear optical properties are discussed to illustrate the importance of structure–property correlations. Results on emerging organic materials that include liquids, dyes, fullerenes, charge-transfer complexes, π-conjugated polymers, dye-grafted polymers, organometallic compounds, composites, and liquid crystals are presented. Organic nonlinear optical materials seem promising for a wide range of applications and their potential for integrated optics should be further explored.

Organic Materials for Third‐Order Nonlinear Optics

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drainage system for a toilet bowl apposition unit capable of ensuring optimum carrying performance to a vertical drain pipe by exhibiting the force of pushing out a solid matter satisfactorily with a small quantity of flushing water. SOLUTION: The drainage system has a plurality of wall drain type toilet bowls 1A, 1B and 1C apposed, and drains drainage from the respective toilet bowls 1A, 1B and 1C to the vertical drain pipe 3 through one horizontally drawing piping 2. The pipe diameter of the horizontally drawing piping 2 is set to 75 mm, and the gradient of the horizontally drawing piping 2 from the upstream toilet bowl 1A to the vertical drain pipe 3 is set to a steep gradient exceeding 1/75. Bei der Vorrichtung zur Anzeige eines moglichen Arbeitsbereichs des Hydraulikbaggers legt eine Recheneinheit eine Grenze (84) zwischen dem moglichen Arbeitsbereich und dem Unterbodenbereich auf die vertikale Richtung in einem globalen Koordinatensystem fest, wenn der Fahrzeugkorper horizontal orientiert ist. Bei einer Neigung des Fahrzeugkorpers nach vorne legt die Recheneinheit die Grenze (84) derart fest, dass diese die vertikale Richtung in dem globalen Koordinatensystem beibehalt. Bei einer Neigung des Fahrzeugkorpers nach hinten korrigiert die Recheneinheit die Grenze (84) zwischen dem moglichen Arbeitsbereich und dem Unterbodenbereich, so dass der durch die Grenze (84) und die Gelandeoberflache (GL), auf der der Fahrzeugkorper positioniert ist, gebildete Winkel mindestens 90° betragt.
