Objetivos: analisar o resultado da abordagem terapêutica do pseudocisto da glândula de Bartholin (PB) com marsupialização, além de avaliar a história pregressa dessas mulheres. Materiais e Métodos: estudo de coorte baseado na análise de prontuários de mulheres com diagnóstico de PB atendidas no ambulatório de patologia vulvar no Instituto de Ginecologia da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (IG-UFRJ), entre janeiro de 2000 a dezembro de 2016. Analisou-se as seguintes variáveis: marsupialização uni ou bilateral, complicações associadas ao procedimento, taxa de recidiva e tempo decorrido entre o intervenção e a recidiva, seguimento, idade, história prévia de PB ou abscessos de Bartholin (AB) e infecções sexualmente transmissíveis. A análise estatística foi descritiva, usando o software Statistic Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), versão 23. Resultados: foram atendidas 244 mulheres com PB. Dentre essas, 140 mulheres com 150 PB no total foram incluídas. Recidiva ocorreu em 7,33% (11/150). Não houve intercorrências intraoperatórias e a taxa de complicações pós-operatórias foi de 4,67% (7/150). Das 244 mulheres selecionadas, 90,98% (22/244) tinham menos de 50 anos de idade, 78,69% (192/244) relataram PB ou AB prévios, 41% (100/244) referiram pelo menos uma drenagem anterior. Conclusão: observou-se sucesso na abordagem terapêutica na maioria dos procedimentos. A maior prevalência foi em mulheres com idade inferior a 50 anos e com história prévia de PB ou AB.

Sucesso na abordagem terapêutica do pseudocisto da glândula de Bartholin com marsupialização: estudo de coorte retrospectivo

Introduction and purpose: 
Bartholin's glands are paired structures, playing a significant role in lubricating the vagina through the production of mucus. They are physiologically undetectable, but when their ducts are clogged, the accumulating secretion can lead to various pathologies. The most common are cysts and abscesses, the symptomatic conditions of which are the causes of nearly 2% of gynecological visits annually. Statistically, they most frequently occur in women of childbearing age, however, young age is not a rule. The aim of the study is to summarize the state of knowledge about Bartholin's gland cysts and abscesses, with an indication of the currently used therapies. 
State of knowledge: 
In some cases, the course of these pathologies can be asymptomatic, however, the rest of the patients may experience unpleasant symptoms and require treatment. During diagnostics, it is important to carefully collect an interview and conduct a physical examination, because in most cases on this basis it is possible to make an accurate diagnosis. However, in case of doubt, imaging tests can also be used. There may be times when patients with asymptomatic cysts may not require treatment. Nevertheless, choosing the right therapy is sometimes challenging for the clinician due to the potential risk of symptoms recurring. 
Conclusion: 
Although there are many different treatments available, the most commonly used appears to be marsupialization or incision and drainage with Word catheter placement. Additionally, an increasing number of articles devoted to the use of the CO2 laser can also be observed, but even it has its drawbacks. For this reason, there is still a need for further research into new methods of treatment that would ensure both good results and high comfort for the patients.

Abscesses and cysts of Bartholin's gland - contemporary problems of active women

Objective The aim of this study was to determine the frequency, morphology, and attenuation characteristics of Bartholin cysts on multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) in asymptomatic women. Methods A total of 3280 consecutive MDCT examinations were assessed for Bartholin cysts. The diagnosis was based on shape, contrast enhancement, and anatomical location. Age, laterality, size, and attenuation patterns were recorded. Scans from patients with paravaginal-related symptoms were excluded, and any available follow-up MDCT scans or magnetic resonance images were evaluated. Results Asymptomatic Bartholin cysts were seen in 17 patients (0.52%) (mean age, 56 years). The mean maximum cyst diameter was 21.8 mm. High-attenuation cysts comprised 47% of cases, all in older (≥50 years) patients. Follow-up MDCT scans showed minimal changes over time. Conclusions High-attenuation Bartholin cysts are more common than previously thought and are usually seen in older women. The size and attenuation of Bartholin cysts show only minimal changes over time.
