Novel compounds of 4-amino-1,2,4-triazole with dicarboxylic acids crystal structures, vibrational spectra and non-linear optical properties

We perform a systematic study of spontaneous Raman scattering in resonant planar structures. We present a semiclassical approach that allows the description of spontaneous Raman scattering in an arbitrary multilayer, providing analytical expressions of the Raman cross sections in terms of the Fresnel coefficients of the structure and taking into account beam size effects. Large enhancements of the Raman cross section are predicted in fully dielectric structures. In particular, given our results, truncated periodic multilayers supporting Bloch surface waves might be of interest for the realization of integrated Raman sensor devices.

Surface enhanced Raman scattering in the presence of multilayer dielectric structures

We demonstrate Raman spectroscopy on a high index thin film tantalum pentoxide waveguide and compare collection of Raman emission from the waveguide end with that from the waveguide surface. Toluene was used as a convenient model analyte, and a 40-fold greater signal was collected from the waveguide end. Simulations of angular and spatial Raman emission distributions showed good agreement with experiments, with the enhancement resulting from efficient collection of power from dipoles near the surface into the high-index waveguide film and substrate, combined with long interaction length. The waveguide employed was optimized at the excitation wavelength but not at emission wavelengths, and full optimization is expected to lead to enhancements comparable to surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy in robust low-cost metal-free and nanostructure-free chips.

Le domaine des couches minces optiques a vu les fonctions de filtrage se complexifier et les techniques de depot se perfectionner. Cependant, certains filtres requierent des performances ultimes notamment en termes d’uniformite et de centrage de leur reponse spectrale. Atteindre ces specificites requiert un controle precis de l'epaisseur optique des couches de l’empilement. Pour se faire, l’utilisation d’un materiau dont l’indice de refraction peut etre modifie localement apres depot est une solution. Le candidat retenu est un verre de chalcogenures : l’AMTIR-1, un verre commercial, dont l’indice de refraction decroit sous l’action d’un champ electrique lumineux. Des couches minces de ce materiau ont ete deposees par evaporation par canon a electrons et leurs proprietes optiques ont ete caracterisees par mesures spectrophotometriques. Des variations d’indice photo-induites de ~4.10-2 ont ete enregistrees a λ = 1 μm. Ces variations d’indice ont ensuite ete exploitees pour concevoir des composants a base de couches minces optiques spatialement structures. En particulier, des composants optiques diffractifs binaires ont ete enregistres dans le volume d’une monocouche epaisse de chalcogenure par exposition structuree. Un accord quasi parfait entre theorie et experience a ainsi ete obtenu. L’insertion de ces couches photosensibles a base de chalcogenures dans des filtres optiques interferentiels multicouches a egalement ete investiguee. Une demonstration du controle local de la reponse spectrale d’un filtre passe-bande de type Fabry-Perot a ete realisee, demontrant ainsi le potentiel de cette nouvelle approche pour la realisation de composants optiques optimises.

Couches minces photosensibles pour la realisation d'elements optiques diffractifs et de filtres optiques interferentiels spatialement structures

There is currently a high demand for energy production worldwide, mainly producing renewable and sustainable energy. Bio-sensitized solar cells (BSCs) are an excellent option in this field due to their optical and photoelectrical properties developed in recent years. One of the biosensitizers that shows promise in simplicity, stability and quantum efficiency is bacteriorhodopsin (bR), a photoactive, retinal-containing membrane protein. In the present work, we have utilized a mutant of bR, D96N, in a photoanode-sensitized TiO2 solar cell, integrating low-cost, carbon-based components, including a cathode composed of PEDOT (poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) functionalized with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNT) and a hydroquinone/benzoquinone (HQ/BQ) redox electrolyte. The photoanode and cathode were characterized morphologically and chemically (SEM, TEM, and Raman). The electrochemical performance of the bR-BSCs was investigated using linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), open circuit potential decay (VOC), and impedance spectroscopic analysis (EIS). The champion device yielded a current density (JSC) of 1.0 mA/cm2, VOC of -669 mV, a fill factor of ~24 %, and a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 0.16 %. This bR device is one of the first bio-based solar cells utilizing carbon-based alternatives for the photoanode, cathode, and electrolyte. This may decrease the cost and significantly improve the device's sustainability.
