The purpose of this paper is to clarify the definition of digital transformation (DT) and to introduce a structured approach with phases, activities and results. Our research is based on a literature review which provides insight into the basic understanding of DT. Examples complete the research and show the practical application of DT. The main findings are that although DT is a widely known concept, an approach for the structured DT of business models is missing. The paper offers a clear definition of the DT of business models and phases for the DT of business models. Moreover, the paper offers examples of enablers and DT.

Digital Transformation of Business Models — Best Practice, Enablers, and Roadmap

Supply Chain processes are continuously marred by myriad factors including varying demands, changing routes, major disruptions, and compliance issues. Therefore, supply chains require monitoring and ongoing optimization. Data science uses real-time data to provide analytical insights, leading to automation and improved decision making. RFID is an ideal technology to source big data, particularly in supply chains, because RFID tags are consumed across supply chain process, which includes scanning raw materials, completing products, transporting goods, and storing products, with accuracy and speed. This study carries out a systematic literature review of research articles published during the timeline (2000-2021) that discuss the role of RFID technology in developing decision support systems that optimize supply chains in light of Industry 4.0. Furthermore, the study offers recommendations on operational efficiency of supply chains while reducing the costs of implementing the RFID technology. The core contribution of this paper is its analysis and evaluation of various RFID implementation methods in supply chains with the aim of saving time effectively and achieving cost efficiencies. 

Enhancing supply chain performance using RFID technology and decision support systems in the industry 4.0-A systematic literature review

Increased attention to environmental sustainability has created pressures to adopt the circular economy (CE) principles. The transition toward CE requires system redesign and business process modification. Embracing disruptive technologies produces several benefits including improved productivity and resource utilization. Thus, organizations become eager to adopt and sustain digital supply chains (DSCs) in globally competitive markets. Additionally, the linkage between DSC with CE and the impact of DSC on organizational performances from the perspective of CE remain unexplored in previous studies. This study aims to develop a framework for DSC adoption from the perspective of CE. The present study recognizes the barriers through literature review and experts' opinions that must be eradicated to attain the objectives of DSCs. In this study, 19 potential barriers to DSCs were identified. A fuzzy best–worst method (BWM) was adopted to prioritize the identified barriers. Further, the study formulates strategies for integrating the CE with DSCs to overcome the barriers. A modified Total Interpretive Structure Model (m-TISM) was developed to highlight the different levels of suggested strategies. This study contributes to the existing literature by analyzing the identified barriers to DSCs and suggesting overcoming strategies. The integrated methodology assists organizations to develop efficient and integrated strategic measures toward DSC adoption through the application of enhanced knowledge of CE and environmental sustainability. The findings reveal that the “lack of digital skills and facilities” is the most influential barrier in DSC development. Further, the findings indicate that financial and regulatory supports are the primary steps toward a digitalized economy. 

A framework for digital supply chains in the era of circular economy: Implications on environmental sustainability

This study examined the association between digital transformation (DT), supply chain integration (SCI), and overall sustainable supply chain performance (OSSCP). The current literature has preliminarily explored the concepts of DT and SCI and their relationship with sustainable supply chain performance. However, real empirical evidence of the direct impact of DT and SCI on OSSCP has been missing so far. To fill this gap, data were collected from 134 professionals working in international manufacturing companies operating in Morocco through a questionnaire-based survey from August 2022 to November 2022. A conceptual framework was developed based on DT, SCI, and OSSCP and analyzed by partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with the assistance of SmartPLS 4.0 software. The findings revealed that DT has a significant positive influence on SCI and OSSCP. Furthermore, SCI directly and positively impacts OSSCP with a partial mediation effect on the relationship between DT and OSSCP. Further, this research provides insights for practitioners into enhancing sustainable supply chain performance by adopting digital technologies and integrating SC functions. In particular, this study revealed that DT adoption drives a higher ethical supply chain level from the perspective of sustainability and efficiency in operations. This study is the first to analyze the influence of digital transformation and supply chain integration on sustainable supply chain performance in a manufacturing context.

The Influence of Digital Transformation and Supply Chain Integration on Overall Sustainable Supply Chain Performance: An Empirical Analysis from Manufacturing Companies in Morocco

Blockchain, the technology infrastructure behind the famous cryptocurrency bitcoin, can take away the notion of trust from centralized organizations to a decentralized platform that is mathematically verifiable and cryptographically secure. It is gaining more significant momentum exponentially and disrupts the way businesses function beyond the digital currency aspects. This work presents a text mining literature analysis of research articles published in major digital libraries on blockchain technology and cybersecurity. This literature analysis employs automated text mining approaches such as topic modeling and keyphrase extraction for unearthing the themes from a vast body of literature. This analysis highlights the multidisciplinary nature of blockchain technology within the cybersecurity domain. The findings also show the cyber threats and vulnerabilities that evolve with blockchain technology developments. This analysis also showcases the computer security research community’s vulnerabilities and provides future research dimensions that are crucial for designing secure blockchain applications and platforms. 

Blockchain technology for cybersecurity: A text mining literature analysis

Efficient Inter-Organizational Information Systems (IOIS) have become the backbone of modern supply chains. IOIS can be used to plan, coordinate, collaborate and integrate supply chains for attaining competitive advantage. The speed of innovative technology evolvement, lack of clarity, and delay in taking appropriate managerial and strategic decisions for adopting IOIS demand further research in this area. The robust advancement in digital technologies stresses a proper decision model for the IOIS adoption process. This paper provides a novel model for selecting the best IOIS alternative by considering the contents, scope, and critical decision-making factors affecting supply chain integration. Twelve decision-making factors affecting IOIS selection were identified and categorized under four significant dimensions: technological, operational, application, and innovative for effective decision-making. Study results reveal that project completion time is the most relevant criterion, followed by digital technology enablers and the financial resources required to select IOIS alternatives.
