The role of cells of vascular wall is very important in inflammatory diseases, including atherosclerosis, ischemia/reperfusion, and septic shock Research in vascular biology has progressed remarkably recently, resulting in a better understanding of the vascular cell responses to inflammatory stimuli Most of the vascular inflammatory responses are mediated by IκB/NF-κB Much recent work shows that vascular inflammation can be limited by anti-inflammatory mechanisms that maintain the vascular homeostasis The anti-inflammatory mechanisms in the vascular wall involve anti-inflammatory external signals and intracellular mediators The external signals include the anti-inflammatory cytokines, TGF-β, IL-10 and IL-1 receptor antagonist, HDL, as well as some angiogenic and growth factors Physiological laminar shear stress is important in protecting endothelial cells against inflammatory activation Its effects are partly mediated through NO production Finally, endogenous cytoprotective genes or nuclear receptors, such as the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors, can be expressed by vascular cells in response to proinflammatory stimuli to limit the inflammatory process and the injury

Accuracy of D‐dimer/fibrinogen ratio to predict pulmonary embolism: a prospective diagnostic study – a rebuttal

Intelligent aero-engine is one of the three key projects in VAATE program. Embedded advanced sensors onto the key components such as turbine blade are highly necessary for those internet+ applications on intelligent aero-engine endeavors. In this paper, the Pt thin film sensor was fabricated onto the turbine blade surface using MEMS technology. This micro-machined embedded sensor on turbine blade is capable of measuring the high temperature up to 1300°C. Very good linearity of the Pt thermal resistance vs. temperature in the sensor was observed and repeatability is good. This proves a successful ceramic coating to achieve a high temperature electrical insulation as well as a MEMS-sensor technology capable of fabricating the embedded thin film sensors directly onto the curved turbine blade surface. This high temperature sensor is small in size with a thickness within one μm and line width within a few hundred μm. This development is very useful to quantify the temperature of the sensitive spot on the turbine blade in the combustion environment for aero engine R&D purpose.
