The purpose of this study is to review the effect of usability factors on e-learning user relationships, namely, student–student interaction (SSI), student–instructor interaction (SII) and student–content interaction (SCI), in the existing e-learning literature. Further, this study intended to identify whether usability contributes to the satisfaction of e-learners.,This study has undertaken a systematic review using the PRISMA methodology to filter the literature in the domain of e-learning with respect to usability concerns using six databases. An analytical framework has been formulated to evaluate the literature against different dimensions of interactions and usability.,Results reveal that while SSI has grabbed 71.4 per cent research attention with respect to usability factors of e-learning systems, SCI has been given the least focus, i.e. 26.6 per cent. According to the results, e-learning systems’ usability issues influence the user relationships and affect the user satisfaction, which will lead to lack of user continuity.,The findings of this review will provide insights to instructional designers to construct more satisfied learning content for the users. The analysis framework of this study will encourage researchers to drive future research in e-learning along with the concern of usability.,This research emphasizes on the importance of SCI to focus future e-learning research on a different angle, in addition to SSI and SII. The analysis framework of this study will provide different dimensions, specifically for the empirical research in the domain of e-learning.

The role of usability on e-learning user interactions and satisfaction: a literature review

Aplikasi mobile smart grid merupakan modernisasi dalam konsumsi daya listrik. Saat ini, penelitian mengenai aplikasi mobile smart grid sampai pada fungsi pemantauan, mengatur, dan menjadwalkan konsumsi energi saja. Proses menjual dan membeli daya listrik belum ada. Makalah ini merancang user interface (UI) aplikasi mobile smart grid pada proses menjual dan membeli daya listrik. Desain UI aplikasi mobile smart grid menggabungkan penggunaan Materials Design for Android (MDfA) dengan desain yang mengadopsi Common Element Sets (CES). Hasil desain UI diuji menggunakan usability dan User Experience (UX). Usability test menggunakan System Usability Scale (SUS) dan Uji UX menggunakan User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ). Hasil uji usability mendapatkan skor 72 yang dianggap di atas rata-rata dan masuk dalam kategori “baik”. Uji UX masing-masing mendapat nilai sebagai beikut: daya tarik 1,925, kejelasan 1,975, efisiensi 1,913, ketepatan 1,738, stimulasi 1,938, dan kebaruan 1,988. Keseluruhan hasil pengujian UX termasuk ke dalam kategori “sangat baik”.

Perancangan dan Evaluasi User Interface Aplikasi Smart Grid Berbasis Mobile Application

The user experience related to a product can determine its success or failure. As a result, companies have invested in research to understand what the user feels when he or she uses a product, but it is not simple to get this information, and many approaches arose through the years. This article presents a systematic review on the user experience evaluation field, based on 25 studies. We found (1) that psychophysiological measures are not yet widely applied in the evaluation of the user experience; (2) researchers prefer qualitative approaches; (3) the evaluations are mostly manual (not real time, therefore), and using ready-made products; and (4) most studies used single measurement, not considering the use of the product over time. This scenario shows an opportunity for UX evaluation methods which consider the use of the product over time and provide real time results.

A Systematic Review About User Experience Evaluation

Background: Advances in technology made possible the development of powerful platforms called Learning Management Systems (LMSs), designed to help the teaching and learning process. Studies show that usability and User Experience (UX) of such platforms may influence in this process. Although several studies had been conducted in this area, most of them are at initial stages and need improvements or deeper empirical studies. Aim: This work aims to analyze scientific publications in order to characterize the usability and UX evaluation techniques in the context of LMSs. Method: We performed a systematic mapping study regarding the usability and UX evaluation techniques in the context of LMSs. Results: A total of 62 publications were accepted in this mapping, which helped identifying the techniques used to evaluate the usability and UX of LMSs and their characteristics such as its origin, type, performing method, learning factors, restriction and availability. Conclusion: Several studies were conducted regarding the evaluation of LMSs. However, there are still some gaps such as the lack of techniques with some features, e.g., feedback with suggestions to correct the identified problems. Besides, there is no sufficient evidence of which of them is best suited for this context.

Usability and User Experience Evaluation of Learning Management Systems - A Systematic Mapping Study.

The three-volume set LNCS 9746, 9747, and 9748 constitutes the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Design, User Experience, and Usability, DUXU 2016, held as part of the 18th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2016, in Toronto, Canada, in July 2016, jointly with 13 other thematically similar conferences. The total of 1287 papers presented at the HCII 2016 conferences were carefully reviewed and selected from 4354 submissions. These papers address the latest research and development efforts and highlight the human aspects of design and use of computing systems. The papers accepted for presentation thoroughly cover the entire field of Human-Computer Interaction, addressing major advances in knowledge and effective use of computers in a variety of application areas. The total of 157 contributions included in the DUXU proceedings were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this three-volume set. The 49 papers included in this volume are organized in topical sections on design thinking; user experience design methods and tools; usability and user experience evaluation methods and tools

Design, User Experience, and Usability: Design Thinking and Methods

Faculty of Computer Science Universitas Indonesia (Fasilkom UI) implemented an e-Learning environment, Student Centered E-Learning Environment (SCELE), to complement the conventional approach of teaching and learning since 2005. Evaluations regarding effectiveness of the e-Learning system used by lecturers have been made. However, the students have not evaluated yet the user experience while using the system. The materials posted in SCELE include PowerPoint slides, multimedia contents, and enrichment materials (e.g., links to online articles). Most of lecturers use discussion forums in their courses to encourage students to participate in active learning setting. Staff and lecturers sometimes post academic-related announcements on the SCELE homepage. The aim of the current study is to evaluate the user experience while students use the SCELE. A multi-methods approach is used to conduct the study. 113 students enrolled in Computer Science program were invited to evaluate SCELE. This study will benefit program and center of learning resources administrators, and learning management system developers to enhance the presence of e-Learning system in their institutions. Findings of the current study may also be valuable for universities and high schools which are using computer-based learning environments. Specifically in developing countries, many academic institutions are still struggling with internet bandwidth to provide high quality interactions and learning experience.
