Chiral perturbation theory for heavy hadrons and chiral effective field theory for heavy hadronic molecules

The decay $B_c^+\to J/\psi K^+$ is observed for the first time using a data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 ${\,fb}^{-1}$, collected by the LHCb experiment in $pp$ collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $7\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}$. A yield of $46\pm12$ events is reported, with a significance of 5.0 standard deviations. The ratio of the branching fraction of $B_c^+\to J/\psi K^+$ to that of $B_c^+\to J/\psi\pi^+$ is measured to be $0.069\pm0.019\pm0.005$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Using the newly measured masses of ${B}_{c}(1S)$ and ${B}_{c}(2S)$ from the CMS Collaboration and the $1S$ hyperfine splitting determined from the lattice QCD as constraints, we calculate the ${B}_{c}$ mass spectrum up to the $6S$ multiplet with a nonrelativistic linear potential model. Furthermore, using the wave functions from this model we calculate the radiative transitions between the ${B}_{c}$ states within a constituent quark model. For the higher mass ${B}_{c}$ states lying above $DB$ threshold, we also evaluate the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka (OZI) allowed two-body strong decays with the $^{3}{P}_{0}$ model. Our study indicates that there is large potential for the observations of the low-lying ${B}_{c}$ states below the $DB$ threshold via their radiative transitions; in addition, some higher mass ${B}_{c}$ states, such as ${B}_{c}({2}^{3}{P}_{2})$, ${B}_{c}(2^{3}{D}_{1})$, ${B}_{c}({3}^{3}{D}_{1})$, ${B}_{c}(4^{3}{P}_{0})$, and the $1F$-wave ${B}_{c}$ states, might be first observed in their dominant strong decay channels $DB$, $D{B}^{*}$, or ${D}^{*}B$ at the LHC for their relatively narrow widths.

Excited bottom-charmed mesons in a nonrelativistic quark model

We study the exclusive nonleptonic two-body ${B}_{c}$ decays within factorization approximation, in the framework of the relativistic independent quark model based on a confining potential in the scalar-vector harmonic form. The relevant weak form factors and branching ratios for different decay modes $({B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}PP,PV,VP)$ are predicted in reasonable agreement with other quark model predictions. We find that the dominant contribution to the ${B}_{c}$-meson lifetime comes from the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Masakawa favored $\overline{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\overline{s}$, $\overline{d}$ decay modes, and the most promising modes are found to be ${B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{B}}_{s}^{0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, ${B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{B}}_{s}^{0}{\ensuremath{\rho}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\overline{B}}_{s}^{\ensuremath{\star}0}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ with predicted branching ratios of 12.01, 9.96, and 8.61%, respectively, which might be easily detected at the hadron collider in the near future.

Nonleptonic two-body B c -meson decays

The exclusive rare radiative $B$ decays are studied in the relativistic independent quark model based on the confining potential in the scalar-vector harmonic form. The relevant form factors as well as the branching ratios for the processes ${B}^{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{*0}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ and ${B}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{*\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ have been estimated in reasonable agreement with the available experimental data. The result compares well with several other model predictions. The calculation has been extended to the CKM-favored process ${B}_{s}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\varphi}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ and CKM-suppressed processes ${B}_{u,d}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\rho}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ and ${B}_{s}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{K}^{*}\ensuremath{\gamma}.$

Exclusive rare radiative decays of B mesons

We study the radiative leptonic decay, ${B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}\ensuremath{\gamma}$, in the framework of a relativistic independent quark model, based on the confining potential in the scalar-vector harmonic form. As expected, we find that the photon emission in this decay overcomes the so-called helicity suppression inevitable in the case of pure leptonic decay $({B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}})$. Our result for the branching ratio is $\mathcal{B}r({B}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}\ensuremath{\gamma})=1.70\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}6}$, which is comparable with other model predictions within the current experimental upper limit. The photon energy spectrum predicted in the model is slightly asymmetric with the peak value around 1.45 GeV, which should render it quite accessible to experimental analysis.

Radiative leptonic decay: B - →μ - ν̄ μ γ in a relativistic independent quark model

We study the decays ${B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{*}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ and ${B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}_{s}^{*}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ in the relativistic independent quark model based on the confining potential in the scalar-vector harmonic form. Out of the two competing mechanisms contributing to these decays, we find that the weak annihilation contribution dominates the electromagnetic penguin one. Considering contributions from both mechanisms, total decay widths and branching ratios are predicted as $\ensuremath{\Gamma}{(B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{*}\ensuremath{\gamma})=5.22\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}18}$ GeV, $\ensuremath{\Gamma}{(B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}_{s}^{*}\ensuremath{\gamma})=1.98\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}16}$ GeV and ${Br(B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}^{*}\ensuremath{\gamma})\ensuremath{\simeq}3.64\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}6},$ ${Br(B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}_{s}^{*}\ensuremath{\gamma})\ensuremath{\simeq}1.39\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$ with ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{{B}_{c}}=0.46$ ps. The decays ${B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{D}_{s}^{*}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ can well be studied at CERN LHC in the near future.

Rare radiative decay of the B c meson

The radiative leptonic decay ${B}_{c}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ is analyzed in its leading order in a relativistic independent quark model based on a confining potential in an equally mixed scalar-vector harmonic form. The branching ratio for this decay in the vanishing lepton mass limit is obtained as $\mathcal{B}r({B}_{c}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\mu}{\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}\ensuremath{\gamma})=6.83\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}5}$, which includes the contributions of the internal bremsstrahlung and structure-dependent diagrams at the level of the quark constituents. The contributions of the bremsstrahlung and the structure-dependent diagrams, as well as their additive interference parts, are compared and found to be of the same order of magnitude. Finally, the predicted photon energy spectrum is observed here to be almost symmetrical about the peak value of the photon energy at ${\stackrel{\texttildelow{}}{E}}_{\ensuremath{\gamma}}\ensuremath{\simeq}\frac{{M}_{{B}_{c}}}{4}$, which may be quite accessible experimentally at LHC in near future.
