TL;DR: It is shown how the human gut microbiome impacts the serum metabolome and associates with insulin resistance in 277 non-diabetic Danish individuals and suggested that microbial targets may have the potential to diminish insulin resistance and reduce the incidence of common metabolic and cardiovascular disorders.

The gut microbiome in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease
Zhuye Jie,Huihua Xia,Shilong Zhong,Shilong Zhong,Qiang Feng,Shenghui Li,Suisha Liang,Huanzi Zhong,Zhipeng Liu,Yuan Gao,Hui Zhao,Dongya Zhang,Zheng Su,Zhiwei Fang,Zhou Lan,Junhua Li,Liang Xiao,Jun Li,Ruijun Li,Xiaoping Li,Fei Li,Huahui Ren,Yan Huang,Yangqing Peng,Guanglei Li,Bo Wen,Bo Dong,Jiyan Chen,Qing-Shan Geng,Zhi-Wei Zhang,Huanming Yang,Jian Wang,Jun Wang,Xuan Zhang,Lise Madsen,Susanne Brix,Guang Ning,Xun Xu,Xin Liu,Yong Hou,Huijue Jia,Kunlun He,Karsten Kristiansen +42 more
TL;DR: A metagenome-wide association study on stools from individuals with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and healthy controls is performed, identifying microbial strains and functions associated with the disease.

The microbiota continuum along the female reproductive tract and its relation to uterine-related diseases
Chen Chen,Xiaolei Song,Weixia Wei,Huanzi Zhong,Juanjuan Dai,Zhou Lan,Fei Li,Xinlei Yu,Qiang Feng,Zirong Wang,Hailiang Xie,Xiaomin Chen,Chunwei Zeng,Bo Wen,Liping Zeng,Hui Du,Huiru Tang,Changlu Xu,Yan Xia,Huihua Xia,Huanming Yang,Jian Wang,Jun Wang,Lise Madsen,Lise Madsen,Susanne Brix,Karsten Kristiansen,Xun Xu,Junhua Li,Ruifang Wu,Huijue Jia +30 more
TL;DR: The study provides insight into the nature of the vagino-uterine microbiome, and suggests that surveying the vaginal or cervical microbiota might be useful for detection of common diseases in the upper reproductive tract.

Metagenome-wide association of gut microbiome features for schizophrenia.
Feng Zhu,Yanmei Ju,Wei Wang,Qi Wang,Ruijin Guo,Qingyan Ma,Qiang Sun,Yajuan Fan,Yuying Xie,Zai Yang,Zhuye Jie,Binbin Zhao,Liang Xiao,Lin Yang,Tao Zhang,Junqin Feng,Liyang Guo,Xiaoyan He,Yunchun Chen,Ce Chen,Chengge Gao,Xun Xu,Huanming Yang,Jian Wang,Yonghui Dang,Lise Madsen,Susanne Brix,Karsten Kristiansen,Huijue Jia,Xiancang Ma +29 more
TL;DR: The authors present a metagenome-wide association study of schizophrenia (SZ) in human cohorts and identify SZ-associated specific gut-brain functional modules and pathways including SCFAs and neurotransmitters, which provide new leads for further investigations in cohort studies and animal models.
