Structure optimization of the organ-pipe cavitating nozzle and its erosion ability test on hydrate-bearing sediments

In order to reduce the failure accidents of conventional packers, a kind of sealing structure of retrievable packers is designed, which can provide reference for optimizing the sealing performance and pressure capacity of packers. And theoretical calculation and experimental research on their sealing performance and pressure capacity are carried out through the finite element analysis on the contact with large deformation based on Abaqus and experimental study. The results show that the upper packer is subjected to greater stress and mainly plays a sealing role in the sealing process. In order to improve the sealing performance of the packer, the height of the upper and lower packer should be preferentially selected about 60 mm, the height of the middle rubber cylinders should be about 50 mm, and the thickness of the packer should be about 21 mm. The newly designed rubber cylinders can meet 150°C. The newly designed rubber cylinders can meet the sealing function and pressure bearing function under the condition of 10,000 Psi and 150°C. The newly designed rubber cylinder can satisfy the function of sealing and pressure-bearing under 140°C and 10,000 Psi. The whole experiment shows that the capacity of bearing pressure and sealing is stable, which can better meet the requirements of field use.

Design and Experimental Research on Sealing Structure for a Retrievable Packer

Drilling performance analysis of a new type of direct-rotating mixed-jet nozzle


 Natural gas hydrate (NGH) is a potential clean energy source and is buried abundantly in seafloor sediments. Waterjet is a key technology involved in both the marine NGH solid fluidization exploitation method and the integrated radial jet drilling and completion method. To improve the efficiency of breaking and extracting NGH through a waterjet, a straight-swirling integrated jet (SSIJ) nozzle is designed based on the convergent-divergent geometry and impeller in this study. With a computational fluid dynamics method, the 3D model of SSIJ is constructed, and the characteristics of velocity field, pressure field, cavitation cloud distribution, and turbulence kinetic energy are analyzed, the results of which are compared with conical jet (CJ), convergent-divergent jet (CDJ), and swirling jet (SJ). Laboratory experiments of gas hydrate-bearing sediments (GHBS) erosion by the four kinds of jets mentioned above are conducted to evaluate the jet erosion performance based on the in-house experimental apparatus for NGH generation and cavitating jet erosion. Results indicate that the SSIJ can significantly enhance the breaking volume and efficiency of waterjet erosion on GHBS compared with the other three methods. The most important driving force for improved efficiency is the 3D velocity, which can induce axial impact stress, radial tensile stress, and circumferential shear stress on the impinged GHBS. Additionally, the insertion of an impeller with the center hole greatly improves the cavitation erosion performance of SSIJ. This paper illustrates the erosion performance of four kinds of waterjets in breaking GHBS and provides preliminary insights into the potential field applications in NGH exploitation.

Rock‐breaking mechanism and efficiency of straight‐swirling mixed nozzle for the nondiagenetic natural gas hydrate in deep‐sea shallow

In drilling and completion operations, a packer is a downhole tool to seal the annular space between various sizes of string and borehole. As a key component of packer, slip plays a role of fixed support in the process of setting, thus ensuring a long-term stable sealing of the packer. Aiming at the problem of damage caused by casing pressure on the slip after setting, based on the stress analysis of slip during setting, the slip material with hardness lower than casing was selected, and its finite element analysis model was established. Then, the pressure-bearing law of the slip teeth under three tooth parameters was analyzed. The results of analysis were as follows. With the increase of the number of slips or the distance between teeth or tooth top angle, the strain of slips decreased, but the bending moment of slips increased. At the same time, orthogonal test method was used to optimize the parameters of the slips. The conclusion is that the tooth top angle is 90 degrees, the distance between teeth is 6 mm and the number of teeth is 16, which is the best combination of compressive effect. It will provide a reference for improving the long-term effectiveness of the packer seal in drilling and completion engineering.

Study on pressure‐controlled sliding sleeve of jet breaking for natural gas hydrate mining based on throttle pressure drop principle

In the petrochemical production system, the high-risk items malfunction may lead to major accidents so that the risk level of the items has become the highest focus of attention for the enterprises in petrochemical industry. Based on structural composition and risk relationship, a risk evaluation framework of the petrochemical production system can generally be divided into subsystems (SS), components and parts (CP), failure modes (FM), risk types, and risk factors. So it is a characteristic of multilevel, complex structure, and lack of evaluation criteria that the evaluated object has in the process of risk evaluation. However, there are few targeted modeling and calculation methods to carry out quantitative risk evaluation in the face of the evaluated object. In order to achieve risk quantitative evaluation of the complex structure hierarchical system, a multilevel Borda model (MLBM) is presented innovatively by us based on the traditional Borda method in this study. Moreover, the MLBM are applied to realize quantitative risk evaluation of the main structure system of truss type crane on the offshore platform. In this case study, the equivalent risk value (ERV) and risk priority number (RPN) of the evaluated object with multilevel, complex structure, and inadequate evaluation criteria are calculated and the risk ties in the RPN are effectively reduced. Then, the quantitative risk results can clarify the risk level and distribution of the high-risk items throughout the production system and provide data support for the development of risk control measures to better protect the production safety. Hence, the feasibility and practicability of the method are verified with the case study. The MLBM can be used to solve other comprehensive evaluation problems with a complex hierarchical structure as well.
