Hepatocyte-specific Pten deficiency results in steatohepatitis and hepatocellular carcinomas
Yasuo Horie,Akira Suzuki,Ei Kataoka,Takehiko Sasaki,Koichi Hamada,Junko Sasaki,Katsunori Mizuno,Go Hasegawa,Hiroyuki Kishimoto,Masahiro Iizuka,Makoto Naito,Katsuhiko Enomoto,Sumio Watanabe,Tak W. Mak,Toru Nakano +14 more
TL;DR: Pten is an important regulator of lipogenesis, glucose metabolism, hepatocyte homeostasis, and tumorigenesis in the liver in mice and in vitro, AlbCrePten(flox/flox) hepatocytes were hyperproliferative and showed increased hyperoxidation with abnormal activation of protein kinase B and MAPK.
Expression of a 72-kDa heat shock protein, and its cytoprotective function, in gastric mucosa in cirrhotic rats.
Daisuke Watanabe,Michiro Otaka,Ken-ichiro Mikami,Kazuo Yoneyama,Takashi Goto,Kouichi Miura,Shigetoshi Ohshima,Jiun-Guey Lin,Tomomi Shibuya,Daisuke Segawa,Ei Kataoka,Noriaki Konishi,Masaru Odashima,Masashiro Sugawara,Sumio Watanabe +14 more
TL;DR: Findings suggest that H SP72 in the gastric mucosa plays a crucial role with respect to cytoprotection; the induction of HSP72 may provide therapeutic strategies for protection against mucosal injury in PHG.

Mechanical stretch induces matrix metalloproteinase 1 production in human hepatic stellate cells
Takashi Goto,Ken-ichiro Mikami,Kouich Miura,Shigetoshi Ohshima,Kazuo Yoneyama,Kunio Nakane,Daisuke Watanabe,Michiro Otaka,Sumio Watanabe +8 more
TL;DR: The finding suggested that in the early phase of portal hypertension, hepatic stellate cells increase production of MMPl and decrease production of TIMP1 and TIMP2, activated by mechanical stretch.

Induction of a 72-kDa heat shock protein and protection against lipopolysaccharide-induced liver injury in cirrhotic rats.
Ken-ichiro Mikami,Michiro Otaka,Takashi Goto,Kouichi Miura,Shigetoshi Ohshima,Kazuo Yoneyama,Jiun-Guey Lin,Daisuke Watanabe,Daisuke Segawa,Ei Kataoka,Masaru Odashima,Sumio Watanabe +11 more
TL;DR: This study investigated the cytoprotective effect of HSP72 on lipopolysaccharide‐induced liver injury in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)‐induced cirrhotic rats.

Novel evidence suggesting Clostridium difficile is present in human gut microbiota more frequently than previously suspected
Masahiro Iizuka,Shiho Konno,Hiroaki Itou,Junichi Chihara,Itaru Toyoshima,Yasuo Horie,Kenji Sasaki,Akiko Sato,Kenichi Shindo,Sumio Watanabe +9 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that PCR inhibitors in feces carried through phenol‐chloroform extraction procedure might suppress the sensitivity of PCR and that C. difficile is actually present in human gut microbiota more frequently than previously suspected.
