CpG-DNA-induced IFN-alpha production involves p38 MAPK-dependent STAT1 phosphorylation in human plasmacytoid dendritic cell precursors.
Rumiko Takauji,Sumiko Iho,Hisakazu Takatsuka,Saburo Yamamoto,Takayuki Takahashi,Harukazu Kitagawa,Hiromichi Iwasaki,Reiko Iida,Takashi Yokochi,Takasumi Matsuki +9 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that CpG DNA induces p38 MAPK‐dependent phosphorylation of STAT1 in a manner independent of IFN‐α/β, which may cause ISGF3 formation to increase the transcription of the IRF‐7 gene, thereby leading to IFn‐α production in human PDC.

Discovery of immunostimulatory CpG-DNA and its application to tuberculosis vaccine development.
Saburo Yamamoto,Toshiko Yamamoto,Toshiko Yamamoto,Yasuhiro Nojima,Kiyoko Umemori,Susan W. Phalen,David N. McMurray,Etsuro Kuramoto,Sumiko Iho,Rumiko Takauji,Yukio Sato,Takeshi Yamada,Naoya Ohara,Sohkichi Matsumoto,Yoshitaka Goto,Kazuhiro Matsuo,Tohru Tokunaga +16 more
TL;DR: Bacterial DNA with unmethylated CpG-DNA stimulates vertebrate immature immune cells to induce maturation and to produce TNF-alpha as well as Th1-type cytokines, IL-12 and IFN-gamma, which functions as an adjuvant for regulating the initiation of Th1 differentiation.

Type I IFN Synthesis in Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cells
TL;DR: Two distinct pathways for IFN-α induction in human plasmacytoid dendritic cells (PDC) are reported, one dependent on and one independent of the IFNR-mediated feedback loop.

TL;DR: A purified DNA-rich fraction, MY-1, extracted from Mycobacterium bovis Bacille Calmette Guerin BCG, exhibits a strong antitumor activity against various syngeneic mouse and guinea pig tumors by activating the host innate immune response.
Nicotine induces human neutrophils to produce IL-8 through the generation of peroxynitrite and subsequent activation of NF-κB
Sumiko Iho,Yukie Tanaka,Rumiko Takauji,Chino Kobayashi,Ikunobu Muramatsu,Hiromichi Iwasaki,Kishiko Nakamura,Yutaka Sasaki,Kazuwa Nakao,Takayuki Takahashi +9 more
TL;DR: Nicotine stimulates neutrophil‐IL‐8 production via nAChR by generating peroxynitrite and subsequent NF‐κB activation, and the IL‐8 appears to contribute to leukocytosis in tobacco smokers.
