Fruits and vegetables are susceptible to fungal infections during picking, transportation, storage and processing, which have a high potential to produce toxins. Fungi and toxins can cause acute or chronic poisoning after entering the body. In the field of fruit and vegetable preservation, technologies such as temperature control, modified atmosphere, irradiation, application of natural or chemical preservatives, and edible films are commonly used. In practical applications, according to the types, physiological differences and actual needs of fruits and vegetables, suitable preservation methods can be selected to achieve the effect of preservation and control of fungi and toxins. The starting point of fresh-keeping technology is to delay post-harvest senescence of fruits and vegetables, inhibit the respiratory intensity, and control the reproduction of microorganisms, which is important to control the reproduction of fungi and the production of toxins. From the three directions of physical, chemical and biological means, the article analyses and explores the effects of different external factors on the production of toxins and the effects of different preservation techniques on fungal growth and toxin production in fruits and vegetables, in order to provide new ideas for the preservation of fruits and vegetables and the control of harmful substances in food.

A series of quinoxaline derivatives were designed, synthesized and evaluated as antimicrobial agents against plant pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Some of these compounds exhibited significant antibacterial and antifungal activities in vitro. Compound 5k displayed good antibacterial activity against Acidovorax citrulli (Ac). Compounds 5j and 5t exhibited the most potent anti-RS (Rhizoctonia solani) activity, with the corresponding EC50 values of 8.54 and 12.01 μg mL−1, respectively, which are superior to that of the commercial azoxystrobin (26.17 μg mL−1). Further, the scanning electron microscopy results proved that compound 5j had certain effects on the cell morphology of RS. Moreover, an in vivo bioassay also demonstrated that the anti-RS activity of compound 5j could effectively control rice sheath blight. These results indicate that quinoxaline derivatives could be promising agricultural bactericides and fungicides.

During February and August of 2010 and 2011, disease symptoms were detected in melon ( Cucumis melo cv. Surmeli) fields and commercial nurseries in Adana and Mersin provinces (Eastern Mediterranean Region, Turkey). Lesions on leaves and fruits were observed in nearly 75 and 85 acres production areas of melon in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Initial symptoms were water-soaked irregular spots, light brown to reddish spots advancing through veins on leaves, small water-soaked lesions, greasy, dark olive green colour areas on the surfaces of melon fruit followed by brown lesions, softening, and cracks. Thirty-five non-fluorescent, slow-growing, round, cream and Gram-negative bacterial isolates were isolated from symptomatic plant materials. The pathogenicity of the isolates was proved using melon seedlings and fruits. According to classical, serological, and molecular assays, the causal organism was identified as Acidovorax citrulli . Bu calismada, Turkiye’de AB ulkelerinde ve Dunyada pestisit kullanimi karsilastirilmis ve pestisit kullaniminin avantaj ve dezavantajlari ile pestisitlerin tarimsal ekosistemdeki davranislari aciklanmistir. However, either crop protection against pests and diseases or human health and environment should be considered mutually in pesticide treatments. It is possible to increase quality and quantity of crop without damaging food safety and agricultural ecosystem by using pesticides in the framework of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). In this study, pesticide usage in Turkey, EU Countries and World were compared. Advantageous and disadvantageous of pesticide usage and fate of pesticide in the agro-ecosystem were discussed. In addition, the effective and safe application of pesticides, pesticide residues, and factors affecting residues were also evaluated. A comparison among countries of the notifications by EU-RASFF (Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed) was also performed.
