The research presented in this paper proposes a new machine learning-based evaluation method for assessing the usability of eLearning systems. Three machine learning methods (support vector machines, neural networks and decision trees) along with multiple linear regression are used to develop prediction models in order to discover the underlying relationship between the overall eLearning system usability and its predictor factors. A subsequent sensitivity analysis is conducted to determine the rank-order importance of the predictors. Using both sensitivity values along with the usability scores, a metric (called severity index) is devised. By applying a Pareto-like analysis, the severity index values are ranked and the most important usability characteristics are identified. The case study results show that the proposed methodology enhances the determination of eLearning system problems by identifying the most pertinent usability factors. The proposed method could provide an invaluable guidance to the usability experts as to what measures should be improved in order to maximize the system usability for a targeted group of end-users of an eLearning system. Usability assessment of eLearning systems is a necessary and challenging problem.Machine learning techniques are effective tools for usability assessments.Pareto-like analysis can help devise severity index values.Sensitivity analysis can help rank the most important usability factors.

In the current scenario, the popularity of smartphones has led to the emergence of an ample collection of mobile applications (apps). Mobile apps are dynamic in nature; therefore, classical software development approaches are not suitable. Individual needs of the customer, new technology, battery consumption, and many more issues force app developers regularly introduce new apps to the market. But due to the unavailability of any formal and customized practices of app development, various issues occur in mobile apps. These issues may adversely affect the application and user acceptance of the end product. In this paper, fifteen issues in mobile apps have been identified. Then we applied Fuzzy-DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) method to analyze the critical mobile issues (CMIs) and divide these issues into cause and effect groups. Firstly, multiple experts evaluate the direct relations of influential issues in mobile apps. The evaluation results are presented in triangular fuzzy numbers (TFN). Secondly, convert the linguistic terms into TFN. Thirdly, based on DEMATEL, the cause-effect classifications of issues are obtained. Finally, the issues in the cause category are identified as CMIs in mobile apps. The outcome of the research is compared with the other variants of DEMATEL like G-DEMATEL and E-DEMATEL and the comparative results suggest that fuzzy-DEMATEL is the most fitting method to analyze the interrelationship of different issues in mobile apps development. The outcome of this work definitely assists the mobile apps development industry to successful identification of the serious issues where professionals and project managers could really focus on.

This work is devoted to determining the degree of cross-correlation of software quality subcharacteristics and characteristics for joint measures. In the paper the weights of measures are calculated. The weights of measures represent mutual influences of quality characteristics, subcharacteristics and their mutual correlation The weights of measures are necessary for further evaluation of current software quality characteristics (for ISO 25010).

Software evolution is recognized as one of the most challenging areas in the field of Software Engineering The observation of evolution is time-dependent, reducing opportunities for actual observations in short periods of time Usually, maintenance cycles are proportional to the software life cycle Therefore, the amount of research has not been enough to deal with all the issues related to the evolution of software However, simulation through confident models represents an interesting strategy to support software decay observation in short period of time Towards that, this paper describes a model aimed at supporting the software decay simulation through systems dynamics The Laws of Software Evolution and ISO 9126 were used as initial knowledge to support the discovery of software characteristic (size, periodicity, complexity, effort, reliability, and maintainability) relationships Next, evidence to strengthen the existence of such relationships was acquired through quasi-systematic literature reviews In sequence, the model was applied to support the simulation of industrial software decay The results suggested its feasibility and correctness, making it an interesting candidate to support future software decay studies

Towards a model to support in silico studies of software evolution

One of the difficulties that occur in the model is to decide the weights of quality characteristics. This is due to the interrelations existence among the quality factors based model ISO 9126. Each of these characteristics can influence or even contradict each other. The interrelations existence among the factors affects the weight of characteristics software quality, and will affect the software quality calculation. Therefore, researchers will integrate DEMATEL and ANP methods for calculate the weight of characteristics software quality based model ISO 9126. DEMATEL method used to calculate sum of influences for each characteristics model ISO 9126, while the ANP method used to calculate local weights and global weight for each sub characteristics model ISO 9126. Results from this study is the value of local weights for each of the characteristics of ISO 9126, and global weights for each sub characteristics ISO 9126 which represent the level of importance of the characteristics and sub characteristics ISO 9126.
